Quick As the Wind(p for Barleytuft)

Blossompaw grew nervous as she padded from the apprentices den for her first patrol. She would be doing it with a warrior named Barleytuft. She flicked her tail quietly for a moment as she padded to the camp entrance to wait for Barleytuft.

Barleytuft was honored to get to take someone else's apprentice out for hunting; it was a sort of unspoken rule between mentors that he would report back to Blossompaw's mentor to say how she did under someone else's guidance. The sandy tabby tom padded up to the she-cat and smiled, mewing, "Are you ready to go?"

This would be the first time out without her mentor Swiftstep. When she heard the warrior approach she looked up to him and smiled"yes as ready as I'll ever be"She mewed trying to push down her nervousness.

Barleytuft chuckled. "You'll do just fine," he mewed reassuringly, still glad that Swiftstep had decided to trust him with his own new apprentice. Swiftstep had been the tom's mentor as well. With those words, Barleytuft flicked his tail and led the young she-cat out of camp and onto WindClan territory. The cool leaf-fall wind buffeted them both as they padded across the grasslands.

A short ways away, Barleytuft spotted a rabbit. He nodded at it and paused, indicating that Blossompaw should try to catch it.

Blossompaw nodded slowly"thank you"She mewed needing the reassurance. As they walked her ears remained pricked. When they came to a stop she looked to where Barleytuft pointed out the rabbit and the she cat nodded. She crept forward quietly to get as close as she could before she quietly bunched her mucles in her back legs ready to push off after the fast prey.She waited for one second her breathe quiet before she pushed off the ground pelting after the hare catching it just as it turned to run and killed it cleanly. She picked up the hare happily proud of herself.

Barleytuft watched Blossompaw with interest when she acknowledged him and moved on ahead. He could tell at first that she was feeling unconfident, but that had been obvious from her earlier behavior; however, her movements quickly became natural as she prowled after the rabbit, and after some skillful stalking and a short chase she brought it down. "Very well done, Blossompaw!" Barleytuft praised, watching her pad up with her catch. "I couldn't have done it better myself."

With that, Barleytuft instructed, "Why don't you see what you can track down? Meet me back here once you've caught something." Then the lanky tom raced off to hunt down the scent of rabbit. He spotted it nibbling and raced towards it confidently. Perhaps the creature was distracted, or perhaps just stupid, but either way Barleytuft found himself easily coming down on top of it and crunching its spine beneath his paws. He glanced around to see if he could spot Blossompaw, then continued on to find on more thing for himself.

Blossompaw smiled and nodded quietly going off on her own. She spotted a rabbit not far off and snuck up onto it quietly. Just as she had before she bunched her muscles and sprang forward. She caught up to the rabbit before it could run and killed it cleanly before picking it up and hiding it with the other deciding to try and catch one more.

Barleytuft sniffed the air and, towards the direction of the Thunderpath, he scented squirrel. The silly thing must have found its way across from ShadowClan's territory, or perhaps somewhere around Highstone or Fourtrees. Either way, Barleytuft tried hard to remember how to stalk a squirrel; they weren't typical WindClan prey. He searched for a while and found it, then tried to find what cover he could to get ready to pounce.

Clearly he had not practiced hunting squirrels enough, however, as his clumsy stalking alerted the creature to Barleytuft's presence. Its tail shot into the air as it raced away, disappearing into the bushes back towards the Thunderpath. The sandy tom didn't dare follow it, so he simply made his way back to the rabbit he'd caught before and picked it up to carry back to the one Blossompaw had caught earlier. He sat his catch down and looked around for his apprentice, wondering if she'd had success.

Again it wasn't long before the young she cat had caught the scent of a rabbit before long and followed it. She repeated the same pattern pushing the her back legs off the ground after the rabbit as it started to run. She caught up to it killing it easily. She picked up the rabbit before she went to collect the other prey and went and met up with Barleytuft smiling appily as the two rabbits dangled from her jaw.

Barleytuft saw Blossompaw approaching, two rabbits almost her size dangling from her jaw, and he greeted her warmly, praising, "Wow, you've done wonderful! Swiftstep is going to be incredibly pleased with you." He then picked up the first rabbit that Blossompaw had caught, along with his own, and began to lead the way back to camp. He didn't even mind that the apprentice had caught three rabbits to his one; some days were just like that, and besides, it would only serve to make Blossompaw look even better!
