Hunting Patrol (closed)

Sitting by the camp entrance, Ryecloud breathed out and watched as his breath dissipated into the frost bitten air. Hopefully some-cat would join him on an evening hunting patrol before it got too unbearably cold, so that he could get back to his warm nest.

Barleytuft was a morning cat. He hated the evening hunting patrol, but as he approached the fresh-kill pile and saw it was nearly empty he resigned himself to the idea. He looked to the entrance and saw Ryecloud. The sandy tom padded up and offered, "Hunting patrol?"

Hearing approaching pawsteps, Ryecloud turned to see Barelytuft. "Bes," the crooked jawed warrior mumbled, giving a nod. "Bets vo," he mewed. Standing up, he began to make his way out of the camp entrance, dragging his lame leg behind.

Barleytuft had hunted with Ryecloud before and appreciated that the tom preferred silence; after all they were there to hunt. Barleytuft could wait to chat later. A while after they exited camp, Barleytuft heard rustling in the grasses and turned to see a hare nibbling away. He sprinted for it and overtook it easily, dispatching it with a swift bite to its neck.

Watching as Barelytuft caught his first piece of prey, Ryecloud lifted his jaw to scent the air for any nearby prey. After a little bit of searching, a seemingly fresh scent hit his nose, and crouching down, he prepared himself to hunt. Spotting a hare just a foxlength in front of him, Ryecloud stalked forward. Waiting a few moments, he lept forward as much as his single hind leg allowed him to, claws extended and teeth bared. With a squeal of surprise, the rabbit struggled under the weight of the cat, and sinking his teeth into the neck of the prey, Ryecloud put a quick end to its suffering. So far, so good.

Barleytuft nodded in satisfaction as he watched Ryecloud's successful hunt. It was fairly seamless; oftentimes other than the obviously deformed mouth Barleytuft had no idea the older warrior had disabilities. Barleytuft went in search of his own prey and found a mouse - much smaller than his first catch, but prey was prey. He'd try anyways. Before the mouse knew what was coming he had pounced on it and snapped its neck beneath his paw. The sandy tom carried it back to his other rabbit and looked for Ryecloud to see how he was getting on.

OOC: wanna call it quits before we run into a predator?

IC: Watching as the younger warrior took the life of another piece of prey, Ryecloud's attention turned to something rustling in some tall grass a foxlength or so away. Stalking forward with his limp leg awkwardly trailing behind him, he prepared himself to pounce once more. Jumping at a rabbit who was nibbling on some brush, he was too clumsy and it slipped through his grasp. Standing up, the grey and white tom gave his pelt a shake.

Barleytuft watched Ryecloud try to catch a rabbit that barely slipped from his grasp and Barleytuft sighed. Well, that was okay; they'd already caught two hares and a mouse. The Clan would be very happy with that. Barleytuft picked up his pieces and mewed through the fur, "Shall we head back before we catch too much to carry?"

Nodding at Barleytuft's proposition, Ryecloud dug up his rabbit and made his way back over to the warrior. Waiting for the younger warrior to do the same, the two began to make their way back towards camp with prey to help feed the clan between their jaws.
