Spottedkit's Apprentice Ceremony

It was time for yet another strange apprentice ceremony. The sun was still concealed, although the odd lighting was becoming more familiar. Mistyrain cleared her throat and called out from her perch on the Tallbranch, "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting." As cats of SkyClan approached, she automatically began scanning the crowd for Spottedkit, the kit who would become an apprentice today.

Spottedkit emerged from the nursery into the darkness. It was normal for him; he'd seen the daylight perhaps only once, and even so he wasn't convinced it had been anything more than a dream. Instead of the world around him, the young tom was only focused on his inevitable ceremony and what was expected of him. Although he wasn't nervous, he was still a bit reserved in his feelings. What would be expected of him? To hunt and fight, of course, but did that still leave time to relax and talk with others? Maybe he was being selfish, but he hoped his mentor wouldn't put him to work too often. Spottedkit stared up at Mistyrain, his eyes glittering in the red light.

Her gaze landed on the kit's pale ginger pelt. SkyClan was assembled, so she continued with the ceremony. "Spottedkit, please step forward. You have reached the age of 6 moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed." Mistyrain offered a reassuring smile to the kit, although his emotions were nearly impossible to read, particularly in the reddish glow of the eclipsed sun. "From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Spottedpaw. Condorshade will be your mentor, and I know that he will pass on to you everything that he knows." She leaped down from the Tallbranch to join her Clanmates in congratulating Spottedpaw.

Condorshade's giant body got up from where he was sitting and made his way over to his new apprentice. His poker face didn't reveal any excitment at his first apprentice but deep down, he was a bit giddy. He pressed his nose to the younger tom's and grunted. "Training tomorrow. Be ready." With those four words, Condorshade strode away.
