A Hunting Patrol [OPEN]

Aspenstrike slipped out of his nest in the warrior's den as the light of the sun began to shine. He had been feeling helpless lately. The loss of his mate had affected him deeply. The only things that brought light into his life right now were his kits, his new mate, and her kits. He struggled to stay strong, but it was working. Even if he was this down, he knew he had to keep up with his warrior duties. He had been assigned to a Dawn patrol, he just didn't know with who. The leaf-green eyes he had scanned the clearing of camp, curiosity peaking. He hadn't seen many other cats come out of their den's yet, much less come towards him. The tom sat down, a forced look of confidence on his face. He'd force himself to do this, even if he didn't want to.

Heronflight padded towards Aspenstrike. "Hello, Aspenstrike. Have you been assigned to the dawn patrol, too?" he asked the tom. He probably was, because why else would you stand around in the early morning, looking for other cats who might have been assigned to the patrol. He, for some reason, didn't know who else was in the patrol. He waited for someone else to join this patrol.

Songpaw stretched in the few leaf-fall sun rays. She spotted a cat near the entrance and hurried forward. [color=#ccccff]"Can I join?"/color] she mewed, her fur sticking out against the breeze.

He dipped his head to both of the others. "Sure, why not." He flicked his tail for them to follow, not wanting to waste any time hunting and getting back to camp.

He padded out into the territory until he found a stream. Halting the rest of the patrol, he had to say how much prey they should catch. "Alright, one or two pieces of prey should be good before we head back to camp." He quickly went and sat near the river, watching intently for fish.

Soon he spotted a shadow swimming quickly under the surface of the murky water. As he was trained, he darted his paw in and back out. The fish was hooked on his claws, and it went far away from the bank. He let it sit there as he returned his watchful gaze to the stream.

Heronflight looked for a glimmer of fishy scales, and pounced at it, aiming for the neck.  Success.  The gray tabby tom bit the fish's head off and continued hunting for more fish.

Songpaw saw a shadow dart under the water and dipped her claws in the water. The fish's scales got caught on them and she pulled it up, snapping it's head off.

Heronflight pounced and caught a fish.
