| The past few days, something had changed in Berry. In her lucid moments, the she-cat could tell that something wasn't right, but those were few and far between, and furthermore she couldn't determine the source of her problem. However, there certainly was a problem. Everything Berry saw made her heart beat wildly with fear. Small, insignificant sounds that used to indicate prey now only made her feel like the prey, being watched by something she could never find. Her paranoia was skyrocketing - maybe because of the Regime, maybe because of the Clans, or maybe because she simply realized that she wasn't cut out for life as a loner. However, there was no way to go back to being a kittypet now. She was practically feral, and every twoleg she saw made her more fearful as they yowled and threw things and chased her.
Berry raced through the Twolegplace like a mad rabbit, darting and dashing and switching directions. The she-cat could see, hear, scent nothing but her own overpowering fear, but her mind was convinced that something was following her. The thunderpath before her, the roaring of the fast-approaching monster, fell on numb sense as the tabby-and-white she-cat bolted onto the hard black surface. The monster hit her before her paws even registered the ground she touched, and all the fear was gone - but so was Berry. She lay sightless on the ground, crushed by the monster that screeched to a halt a short distance away, the twolegs inside yowling with alarm. Berry did not hear, and she also did not fear.
