Nettlepaw was ready... to go out and catch things all on his own! So what if Shade was prowling in the forest, he could take 'em! Slowly he looked around the dim camp. The sun had just gone down. Most cats were asleep or eating, so now was his chance to go out on his own and prove himself! He would catch the most prey. Determination lit up his forest green eyes as he slipped out of camp. He headed towards the river. He hadn't been an apprentice long - heck he hardly knew anything! He could still do this though. He would make everyone proud. His grey body wasn't easily seen as he slunk through the sparse trees to the river.
Soon he came upon it. He could hear it's noises, bubbling and calming. He sighed, no time for calm. Tonight he would catch all the prey. Yet suddenly he had an idea. He could swim under the water to catch the fish. It couldn't be that hard he saw Riverclan cat's swimming all the time! It must come naturally. He waded in, shivering as the cold water moved his long fur along with it. The current was strong, but he was stronger! He splashed the rest of the way in and began swimming. Now... where are those fish... He swam into deeper waters where the current started dragging him downstream. He tried to swim back upstream, but the current was too strong. Suddenly he went under and panicked. He thrashed trying to get himself back above water, opening his mouth every time his head bobbed back up. He just kept getting water. Soon the edges of his vision dimmed, and his throat felt like it was constricting. He tried to breath, but just kept breathing in the water. Suddenly everything felt serene, like everything was alright. Then everything went black.
