Hunting with Haste {CLOSED}

Mosspaw, evidently in her typical high spirits, had arose from her slumbering state and was noticeably ready for her daily duties. She always handled anything that included her with bright cheer, and as the blistering beams blazed into her oddly poofy pelt, searched for any clanmates that would show interest in performing a hunting patrol. The camp was filled with the regular bustle that occurred every day, and the apprentice bounced over by the gorse wall defending their shallow, open camp. Perhaps she could announce to the deputy her longing to contribute prey, and he could organize a patrol?
Once she had found Swiftstep, the tortoiseshell skipped up to him.
"Hiya, Swiftstep!" she enthused joyfully, "Would it be fine if I join a hunting patrol? I'm itching to chase some prey for WindClan!"
She flexed her claws, and lightly sunk them into the ground, imagining it was a juicy, plump, fresh rabbit.

Lionpaw awoke with the rising of the sun. He was ready to do- well... apprentice stuff! He had only become an apprentice a little while before but was ready to help out as much as possible! He needed something to do, even with just being awake he was starting to get bored. He shook out his (seemingly) always messy fur (which loved to stick out every which way) and padded out of the Apprentice's den. Soon enough his ears flicked towards another apprentice, Mosspaw. The sound of her voice carried, asking for a hunting patrol to be held. He wanted a hunting patrol to be held too! He swiftly padded over to the pair of cats.

"Hi there Swiftstep, hi Mosspaw! I heard you talking about a hunting patrol, can I come too?" His enthusiasm was quite evident in his still vaguely kit-like voice. He never had really talked to Mosspaw, but had just now noticed they both had fluffy pelts! He'd noticed it was a bit of a rarity in Windclan, so at least he had someone to talk to about how hot it could get with a pelt like this in Green-leaf.

The deputy had been planning for the whole day when he heard his name being called. The tom smiled as he listened to what Mosspaw was asking for. "You certainly can Mosspaw!" when the tom was about to speak again, he heard another voice asking to join "the" hunting patrol. Swiftstep chuckled at these eager apprentices. "Why don't I take you out myself? Come along! Let's not waste anymore daylight!" After that, he led the two apprentices out of the camp and toward the territory for some hunting.

The tom had arrived at a nice location for them to hunt in. He had told them to catch at least 2 decent prey before they can head back. He had also allowed them to hunt a bit more afterwards if 2 wasn't enough.

Swiftstep was now stalking an unsuspecting rabbit in front of him. Once it was at a leaping distance, he pounced. The tom had easily caught the creature. He had moons of experience though. He then proceeded to try and scent another.

Foxspirit ran after the patrol just after it had left camp. "Hey, Swiftstep!" She meowed as she padded up to him. "Great catch! I know it's a little late, but-  I'm not doing anything this morning, so can I join this patrol?"

Wholeheartedly greeting Lionpaw with a broad beam and a flick of her excessively fluffy tail, the tortoiseshell eyed the other apprentice's pelt. She had somehow never observed his long-haired fur, but now she realized that she had someone to share her odd physical trait with! Blinking her gleaming forest eyes, she returned her gaze to look at Swiftstep. He had accepted, and had now offered to lead it himself. That was such a delightful treat! Struggling to refrain from bobbing with pleasure, she obediently followed the deputy.
When Foxspirit approached, Mosspaw warmly grinned, obviously cheerful that another clanmate had decided to join. Straying slightly away from the two warriors to allow them to speak, she focused on the moors. Her paws began to pace forward, and she discovered they had begun to lead her to a source of a sweet, fresh scent. Rabbit.
Failing to resist a smile, she crouched once she spotted the creature. It would be a decent contribution! Sliding her paws to avoid her slight movements to be percepted by the rabbit's large ears, she paused once she came a tail-length away. Twitching her ear in silent excitement, she narrowed her eyes, a grin still formed on her furrowed face. Time for the pursuit.

And she leaped, predicting her prey's next action. Squealing with alarm, the rabbit dashed away, with Mosspaw casting warm breaths onto its back. She was a whisker-length away! The apprentice, her eyes scrunched with excited anticipation, pounced. Satisfied when her extended claws landed directly on top of the horrified creature, she ended its misery with a swift bite. Slowly scrambling to her paws, tail lashing with triumph, she trotted to a small mound and bad touch the ground to shield her fresh-kill from any other predators.

Lionpaw heard that Swiftstep would take them out on a hunting patrol! Excellent! He could practice- no wait... actually hunt! He could show he was the greatest at hunting! Well... maybe not yet. Someday though! He padded alongside Mosspaw, his tall body, despite still being an apprentice, could see over a farther distance than others his age. He could see that the sun was beginning to get higher and higher in the sky. Thankfully Leaf-fall was upon them and the temperatures were growing cooler. This would make it more bearable when outside in the noon-time sun at least. Not just for him, but for Mosspaw as well. His cream-colored pelt helped to blend in with the surrounding ground.

Soon they were out far enough into the territory that he could begin to scent prey. Suddenly he scented a bird. While these weren't rare in Windclan, they weren't quite common either. He turned to see the bird, standing there eating a seed. It didn't blend too well with the grass, because it was black. Excellent, easy to see. He began stalking, his thin form under all of the fur he had would help with hunting, even if the amount of fur on his body did not. He got close enough to the bird. He- within the blink of an eye, ran at the bird. He was close enough that the bird didn't know what had happened. He pounced, digging his claws into its wings, pinning it. He finished it off swiftly. He then buried it where no predators could find it.

As he re-approached some of the patrol, he discovered that Foxspirit had joined them, and some of the others had already caught some prey. He would get the next piece though! He went back to scenting every bit of breeze he got. He wanted to catch the next piece! Well maybe, he probably wouldn't there were more experienced warriors there, but he still wanted to catch it!

Foxspitrit caught the scent of a Hare. Her green eyes searched the moor for it. Onces she had found it, she quickly got in downwind of it. She crept abit closer, than she ran! The wind in her fur, she began to chase down the hare. Fast though it was, it was no match for a warrior of WindClan. She pounced, and it's neck met her teeth for the first, and last, time. Foxspirit let go only as soon as it had stopped jerking. As she looked at its body, she couldn't help but imagine Willowpaw body when it had been brought back to camp. The large gash in his neck, caused by that foxhearted SkyClan apprentice. As long as she lived, she would never forgive SkyClan for stealing her brother away from her. Shaking her head, She placed the hare under a gorse bush, put some dirt over it. Than she left to search for her next piece of prey.

Only managing a brief, hurried glimpse at the others before directing her focus once again on hunting, Mosspaw repositioned herself into the hunting stance speedily. In the blur that had momentarily screened her vision when she had whisked her head around, she had glanced an ebony-colored mass, and another delightful-looking hare-shaped body. Her patrol was doing tremendously exceptional, and she was keen on making the next catch! The tortoiseshell's glimmering forest eyes darted everywhere, her maw ajar in the slightest, hoping to catch even the faintest waft of prey-scent.
There.
A perfectly unsuspecting hare, its slender ears pivoted away from her. A delighted grin formed on her face as she slid her paws forward, flattening herself onto the bristly, crispy grass, thin strands brushing against her fluffy pelt. She approached her prey, ear twitching with determined anticipation.
Three, she crouched lower, two, her tail straightened to barely skim the grass, one.
She pounced.
She almost didn't restrain a pleased yelp when her claws made contact with the sleek ivory hare pelt. She swiftly darted forward to deal a final bite, and sensed the creature's life ebb. With a triumphant smile, she trotted back to bury it safely beneath the crumbly earth. She had accomplished Swiftstep's instructions to catch two satisfactory pieces of prey.

It wasn't long before he caught the sweet scent of hare. Lionpaw's golden eyes searched for the prey animal that he would hunt down, the last one of the patrol for him. He crouched, stalking forward towards the scent. Soon enough, his gaze landed on the animal. He stalked as close as he dared before contemplating his next move. Would he be close enough to pounce? Or was he going to have to give chase? It would be the latter. He bunched up his hindquarters and sprinted towards the hare. The hare had begun to run, but it was too late for it. He pounced, stretching his claws and allowing himself to come down on the hare. He finished it off with a swift bite to the neck.

The hare hung limp from his jaws as he bounced back to the main patrol. A bird and a hare, that was pretty good right? It must be, cats will eat it. So it must be alright. He gathered the bird from where he had buried it earlier and sat with both pieces of prey. They'd be heading back soon.
