Clan Accents & Aesthetics

I was listening to an audiobook the other day (don't remember the book) while doing my knitting. I was really only half-listening, but after I finished the last row, something caught my attention. The author of the book was describing one of the character's accents in meticulous detail. It seemed so accurate and well-suited that I could almost imagine how the character himself would sound. I listened for a little while longer, tied off my scarf, stored my needles, and thought nothing else of it.
However, the little details I had heard the author describe stuck with me, and for the next few days I would imagine what my OC's would sound like if they had real voices. I noticed that each one had their own little way of talking- Leafstorm and Sharptooth used certain words more than Mintwhisker did, and Lilypaw's voice was more thoughtful than Stormstrike's. One thing lead to another, and I began to imagine what accents each clan had. Here's what I managed to come up with:

Windclan:
Wily, sleek, and quick on their feet, the accent that really seemed to fit in with Windclan's sleek sunrise aesthetic was the voice of the Queen herself, true highborn Southern English. Brindlestar has Emilia Clarke's voice fight me

Riverclan:
I had a bit of trouble with Riverclan. For a while I thought they'd speak with a southern english accent, but I just couldn't imagine my stormboi saying anything in that voice. So instead I decided to go with what seemed natural considering Riverclan's modern city vibe, and went with Northwestern American English as their accent.

Thunderclan:
This one was easy, although it's a little hard to describe. Thunderclan cats have only one accent that can fit their starlight-bonfire aesthetic: Norse/Viking. Hear me out: It's NOT scottish. It sounds a bit like scottish, yes, but it's softer than that. They speak with a buckled R sound, pronouncing their D and rounding their O. Just listen to the NPC's talk in Skyrim (The Elder Scrolls V) and you'll get it.

Skyclan:
Skyclan was a bit more difficult to put in a box because of the widely varying personalities, but I finally decided on Lancashire-style Northern English to fit their peaceful nature and calm, forest aesthetic. Almost went with Southern English again, but I just couldn't see Lilypaw speaking like Dodie Clark.

Shadowclan:
Last but not least, Shadowclan! This was by far the most difficult to find an accent for; after tons of research, I begrudgingly settled on traditional Northern Irish for their accent- the soft rolls and soft sounds seemed to fit the gentle purple flower aesthetic Shadowclan has nowadays.

I don't know where this all came from honestly, but I'd love to see your reactions. Feel free to share your own ideas for clan accents and aesthetics as well!

All of my cats actually have their own accents in my mind, I'm not really sure if anyone else does this, but they do :'D


Fallow is downright country. Like me, she's super Southern, and has a really adorable Southern drawl that I haven't really figured out how to accentuate in writing yet.

I like to imagine Silent with an accent like you'd hear from places like Ohio or even West Virginia, so somewhat Southern/Country, somewhat Northern.

Fennel... She's got something I don't really know what to call, but the best way I can think to sum it up is that it'd be similar to what you hear when you go to New Jersey, if that makes any sense at all.

Blaze admittedly has a character that she was somewhat based on. She's got a really cute Irish accent because she was based on Merida, from Brave. That's why she's got russet/ginger fur xD

Dust... She's never really had an accent. I've always liked to imagine that if she were human, she'd be Canadian, since her original prefix was Maple-. So I guess we can say she's got a Canadian accent?

I've always imagined Gust having the exact same accent as Silent, just a bit softer.

Swift was Australian. Don't question it, I really don't know why.

I never really thought about Jay's before, because after all, she is an NPC.

Nut always had the same accent as me, which is basically suburban New England.

Nectar is southern/country, originally sounding a bit like one of those fast talking auctioneers and now a slower and sadder version of that.

Annabelle was British, enough said.

Shrew was how Drippy described ThunderClan. 

Curly has one of those Japanese accents that make you terrified to hear.

Dryad was Greek (which I can't do so speak of like Italian), for obvious reasons.

Clear has an old english/medieval accent that sounds all fancy and royal.

Hill has a midwestern accent, but like a Football player.

Fire-almost british but not quite, i don't know how to describe
Spot-modern american
Cinder-gentle irish like your sc
Flame-light norse but leaning to modern american
Bee- will speak the surly southerner, and i will show it in my roleplayin'

ahh some of these were from a long time ago, but now I guess I have a place to write them down now??

Fox had a strange, but tough-sounding, almost unintelligible mix of a 1930's New Yorker and a German accent. A strange old soldier.

Ash was a pretty gentle, so in his later years he would've sounded like Richard Harris, the first actor to play Albus Dumbledore.

Fog was from the Everglades, fought alligators, and could rip you to pieces with her sharp tongue and claws.

Dark is, well.... she's a tough one to describe. If anything, she'd be a combination of her father Foxfang and her mother, Specklefang, who I can only imagine sounds v tough, however while her accent is noticeable in that way, she is almost never aggressive nor does she fling insults.

Cloud is similar to Dark in his tone, but he's got a twinge of the Rocky Mountains in his voice. He's tired. All the time.

Spider has the distinct accent of constant terror! Yep! When she isn't in fear, though, she sounds like she comes from the Michigan/ Wisconsin area.

Fir- what, you think she'd have an accent? She speaks Norwegian Sign Language, you Fool.

Scorch, appropriately, sounds so much like he's smoked for the past 50 years that his original Midwestern accent is almost covered completely.

oof here we go. I never gave much thought to my character's voices tbh

Haze - I imagine she'd have an accent similar to North Yorkshire accent, but the slightest hint of a Scottish accent underneath it. Her voice would be quite soft, but at the same time very passionate and sure.

Drift- I had this Polish friend and I imagine her to sound like her just a little more high pitched. She'd also more than likely speak a lot softer and gentler.

Jaguar- Definitely had a West Yorkshire accent. Her voice was very strong and domineering, but if she liked you it was very calm and gentle.

Spruce- Some form of an American accent, probably from around the West Coast. His voice was loud and straight foward.

og Osprey- 10/10 had an Australian accent as I based him off of my Australian friend. However, Australian accents are weird and he doesn't sound how you'd imagine one to. It's only obvious really at the end of sentences and words ending with an -ar or -ah sound, idk but when you listen to most Australian's speak it is like this. It is weird. In general he'd have a very gentle and nurturing voice, but it'd also be very proud/

Holly- I think she'd have the accent of a very posh South Londoner. Her voice would be blunt, prim and curt.

Blurry- Honestly don't know. I feel like I didn't really get into his character too much, before i did a die. But for the heck of it lets give him a Russian one. Very proud and strong voice.

Oak- I'm certain she has a Scottish accent, However she is very soft spoken and gentle, so I feel they contradict each other in a way.

Dark- Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok.

Osprey 2.0- He is a Canadian.

Weasel- vvvv Southern accent. She is super happy go lucky and would definitely have a loud, but gentle voice. Don't go to her with your problems she'll probably scream it out. No, do go rant to her she'll give you a hug and she'll love you forever and protect you.

Glade- similar to Holly's probably a little less prim, but definitely has the air of "Sorry that I'm better than you, it is your own fault uwu"
