Turbulent Waters {Closed}

The flutter of feathers disrupted the quiet of the morning. A finch burst forth from from the shelter of the trees, a flash of brown and red. In the next instance, Tigerleaf loped into view. The young warrior's golden eyes were narrowed in concentration, her long tail streaming behind her. As the finch took off into the open sky, her paws stumbled to a rough halt. Unless she grew wings by some miracle of StarClan, there was no way she could catch it now. An expression of discontentment twitched at the corners of her maw as she stared after the rapidly escaping bird. Once it had completely vanished from her field of vision, she dropped her gaze. Not too far away lay the main river that divided SkyClan's territory from RiverClan. Somehow, she had managed to stray all the way over here. The rest of her hunting patrol was, as expected, nowhere to be seen.

Stepping almost soundlessly, she approached the river. Common sense dictated that she return quickly, but it didn't take much to silence it. There was no harm in lingering a little longer now that she had come here. Soon, the shadowy forms lurking within the translucent depths of the water became noticeable to her. So those were fish. Temptation itched in her paws to try catching them. She stood on the bank, musing over the idea.

Cinderfall was alert. After being attacked by shade, especially in this condition, there was no time to let up. He was constantly looking behind him to make sure he wasn't being followed, his one good eye darting around and him turning his head constantly. He walked by the river, as its tranquility calmed his anxiety. The tom's eyes locked onto a strange cat who seemed to be... fishing? Impossible! This cat was Skyclan! Had skyclan learned to fish!? "Hey you, what are you doing here? Stealing Riverclan's fish?" He dove under the water and pushed off, launching out to claw the shecat.

The sight of an unfamiliar tom on the other side of the river caused Tigerleaf to jerk backwards with surprise. Where had he come from? She had believed the opposing bank of devoid of any one else. It was as if he had just materialized from thin air. Had she really been so distracted that she had not noticed his approach? His cry rang in her ears. Before she could say anything, the RiverClanner had already slipped into the water. Within a matter of seconds, he closed the distance between the two of them. The striped she-cat let out a pained hiss as his claws scoured her pelt. Beads of blood welled from the wounds, quickly staining her dark fur. The unexpected pain caused anger to spark within her. Almost instinctively, she retaliated by pummeling the unknown warrior's face with her unsheathed claws.

"I haven't done anything yet!" She sputtered, pupils furiously narrowed to slits. "And who's to say all the fish in the river belong to you?" It occurred to her that she was being uncharacteristically hostile for a first meeting, but that was probably because few cats attacked her right off the bat.

Tigerleaf expected the RiverClan tom to retort or at least say something in response. Instead, she was met with silence. His choice of action was to attack her again. This time, he pinned her to the ground, using his larger bulk to his advantage. The young she-cat's reaction was a second too late to escape, and she found herself securely restrained against the ground. Fear spiked her struggling as she could feel his sharp claws picking her skin. What was wrong with this warrior?

It took an awkward minute of silence for Cinderfall to cone up with a response. "Because it's just about the only prey we can catch. We rely mostly on the river for food and if Skyclan wants in on it, there won't be enough to feed us. That's what I'm here to teach you. " He dug his claws in just a little bit more, knowing his hold was weakening.

Tigerleaf winced as Cinderfall dug his claws further into her flesh. Her struggling ceased briefly at the pain but was quickly renewed. "And you're on my territory now." She hissed through gritted teeth. The striped warrior had always been a little on the small side, and that was definitely working against her now. However, she knew that her thrashing wasn't in vain. The RiverClan warrior was gradually losing his grip. He wouldn't be able to keep her pinned for much longer. Pride dictated that there was no way she could stand losing to this tom. Her claws itched to tear through his pelt.

Tigerleaf is still pinned.

"That may be so. Lessons can be taught anywhere." With these words, he lost his grip and rolled to the ground.

A burst of adrenaline sent strength rushing through her, and Tigerleaf finally tore away from the RiverClan warrior's hold. The moment she was free, she rounded on the larger tom. He hit the ground with a muffled thud, thrown off balance by her escape. She saw her chance, and she took it. Before he could recover, the brown tabby warrior had bitten down on his front leg. Using that to gain leverage, she raked her front claws across his chest. The strong scent of RiverClan flooded her nostrils from the proximity. It was almost enough to make her sneeze, but she refused to let go. Even when blood began to fill her mouth, she only bit down even harder.

Her body screamed with pain at her movements. Tigerleaf hated the fact that she was this badly injured, and she hated the fact that she was probably going to lose this battle. There was nothing she could do about it however. Life really wasn't going well for her. She had lost her best friend not too long ago, and she had just to run into this RiverClan tom. StarClan must really love her or something.

Stunned by the sudden jerk of her grabbing his scruff, Cinderfall did nothing but a shocked struggle.

The sensation of flesh tearing beneath her teeth was probably something that Tigerleaf wouldn't want to experience again if possible. Unlike the times when she was hunting prey, she was actually biting into a cat's leg this time. The RiverClan warrior seemed to have been taken by surprise. As he flailed and struggled, the brown tabby had to jerk violently on his front paw. Strands of his dark gray fur tickled the back of her throat, only increasing her discomfort.

She clawed him forcefully, easily drawing blood. I won't let you win!

Still somewhat stunned and weakened, Cinderfall was not about to pull his paw away. He might end up like Spotfur then... So he wiggled and twisted to make her let go.

Tigerleaf felt her jaws beginning to ache from struggling to hold on. It seemed her hold wouldn't last much longer. Fortunately for her, her opponent didn't seem to be putting up much of a fight. By now, both of them were bearing rather serious injuries. Her fur was sticky with blood, and her wounds were really beginning to sting.
