Mischief in the Dark

Laurelkit fidgeted restlessly in her nest. She listened to the quiet breathing of the other kits and queens, wondering how they could sleep in this sticky heat. Slowly, as to not wake anyone, Laurelkit started to make her way towards the nursery's exit. It was dark however, so she couldn't see very well, and ended up tripping and falling onto someone. She looked down with dread to find that she had fallen right on top of Waspkit!

Waspkit jumped up, looking around only to find a restless Laurelkit on the ground next to him. His eyes widened, as much as he liked to explore he also enjoyed getting his rest, although he found Laurelkit quite enjoyable and didn't mind her waking him up. As to not sound alarmed, he made sure his voice was quieted as to not wake up any others kits and queens that were quietly dozing around them in the dens darkness. "What are you doing going out?" He asked, trying not to let his grumpy tone make way to his words. His gaze was hazing and while it was hard to see Laurelkit, he could still make out her body from the entrances light as well as the bushes unfilled holes.

Laurelkit flinched as Waspkit suddenly jumped up. Why'd he have wake up? She shrunk into her fur as the other kit's eyes widened, realizing he knew what she was doing. "Shh...!" Laurelkit hissed almost as soon as Waspkit opened his mouth. Even though he was speaking quietly, Laurelkit wanted absolutely no chance that a queen would wake up. It was already bad enough that she had messed up and woken another kit, but waking a queen? That would mean instant scolding and an end to her night adventure. Luckily for her though, Waspkit didn't seem like the type to tattle on her...

Laurelkit flicked her ears towards the nursery exit, beckoning the tom-kit to follow as she slipped away.

Waspkit noticed Laurelkit's signal to follow her and began to smile mischievously since he also wanted to sneak out. He began to stretch up, making his way over many other sleeping kits and around dozing queens. It was the perfect time to get up, it had been right in the middle of the night, no one would see them for a few hours, allowing Laurelkit and Waspkit to hang out for longer than they had earlier.

Once out of The Nursery, Waspkit began to trot closer to Laurelkit, "What's the plan?" he asked quietly. He around, he noticed his height was already quite noticeable and he began to feel somewhat, powerful. Being taller than most began to make him think he was in charge. "I would go out but..." He stopped Well, we're already breaking the rules by being up... the tom thought, "You think we could go sneak around outside of camp?"

Laurelkit pondered Waspkit's question for a few heartbeats. On one hand, Laurelkit didn't want to draw attention to herself by getting in trouble for breaking rules. But on the other hand... it was so... exciting! Thinking about all the things that could be waiting for them outside, Laurelkit grew more and more excited. Cool plants and animals and weird scents and interesting rocks and so much more lay beyond the camp's walls.

"Yeah..." she finally whispered, raising her determined gaze to look directly into Waspkit's eyes. "Let's do it!"

Waspkit suddenly felt a bad feeling in his stomach. He was sure that the warrior code was going to be broken when they did this, he had heard some of the rules from another apprentice in SkyClan and he knew that this would hurt his reputation. But he shook his head, still heading out but wanting to remind Laurelkit that this was wrong.

The tom sighed, knowing he had to tell her before they began to go any further. "You know we're breaking the warrior code, right?" Waspkit mewed, looking around to make sure he wasn't too loud. "If we do this, we could get in big trouble."

Laurelkit was already sneaking towards the camp's entrance before she realized Waspkit had stopped. She turned back to look at him, wondering why he wasn't following her. After she got her answer, Laurelkit was a little confused. Wasn't Waspkit the one who had suggested sneaking out? "It's just a dumb rule. It's not like we'd get exiled for taking a peek outside," she responded, rolling her eyes slightly.

Waspkit looked at Laurelkit, he sighed again, moving along with her while checking his back for any warriors or other cats that could perhaps be awake. He moved quickly ahead of Laurelkit, his tall legs showing once more, along with his arrogant personality, which was quite noticeable at this point. "I claim that we should go try and climb a tree, once deep enough into the forest, that is." The male pointed out. He moved smoothly, his transition from scared to bold almost made it seem like he was playing as different characters. He usually wasn't so on the edge of things, maybe because he had been waken up? No, it was Laurelkit who had awaken him, some cat who he wouldn't mind waking up to.

Laurelkit smiled as Waspkit started moving again, pleased that he wasn't backing out on her. Although his arrogance was a bit annoying, Laurelkit didn't mind following him. Her only goal was to leave the camp. If Waspkit wanted to take the lead and figure out which direction to go, Laurelkit was happy to let him do so. Less work for her that way anyways. "Sounds good," she responded, not particularly invested in what they did once outside.

Waspkit began to notice a small tree that the two kits could climb in the distance. He looked over to Laurelkit again, "That tree looks good." the tom mewed as he pointed his head over to the tree, trying to show Laurelkit to the tree that was clearly still growing. "Wanna climb it?" Waspkit proposed to the other kit, confident that she would say yes once more.

Laurelkit did a quick look around the tree, staring intently at it while nodding her head as if deep in thought. "Let's do it," she responded after a few heartbeats. Without even waiting for Waspkit, Laurelkit leaped at the tree and and sunk her little kitten claws into the soft growing bark.

Waspkit stretched himself onto the small tree, moving his paws as he began to unsheathe them. He leaped from the ground into the tree, climbing up a little higher than his dear friend Laurelkit. He looked down to her, snickering as he moved to a thin branch that was strong enough to hold in.

Laurelkit glanced over at Waspkit as he climbed past her. What was he snickering about? She scurried up after him, reaching up to bat at the young tom's tail mischievously. Unfortunately, as this was her first time ever climbing a tree, Laurelkit misjudged the balance required for such a move and ended up nearly tumbling to the ground. She managed to catch herself at the last heartbeat, digging her tiny, needle-like claws into the tree and in the process creating long scratch marks in the soft bark. The embarrassed she-kit looked up at Waspkit sharply, daring her friend to laugh.
