Hunting Hearts (Closed)

“Of course RiverClan is the best clan in the forest. You and I just prove it,” Hillpaw replied, a touch of arrogance in his voice. Flurrypaw was correct in her statement, and it was rather flattering to hear she thought he was pretty good even among a clan full of great warriors. That was something he told himself regularly, but it was different coming out of a gorgeous she-cat. StarClan, she was cute. And pure-blooded too. Turning to the river, he looked for something new to catch. A sizable pike was coming in his direction near the surface of the water, making it the perfect catch. Narrowing his eyes, he flashed his claws towards th fish in the hopes that his claws would spear it and he could even catch it without needing to use his teeth. Now that would be impressive. Unfortunately, when his claws hit the pike, instead of killing it instantly, he just flicked it into the air, where it wriggled around stupidly. A bit frustrated, the apprentice lunged for it, grabbing the fish in his jaws and killing it. That led him to have his front legs knee deep in the river, but he tried to make it look like that had been his plan.

”Wonderful! You just get better and better by the fish!” Flurrypaw praised with happily arched eyes. Wanting to show once again that she was just as capable as Hillpaw at fishing successfully, she striked out yet another fish of her own. After killing it, she admires the combined catches between herself and her denmate. ”Well, I’d say we’ve caught quite enough. We wouldn’t want to overfish with our magnificent skills, now would we?” She narrowed her eyes tauntingly as she looked over at the warrior. ”And how many fish have you caught, Tawnyfang? If you’ve caught any at all, that is!”

Tawnyfang was beginning to grow agitated at the two apprentices. Tail tip twitching, she looked over at Flurrypaw, with the kindest smile she could muster. Her own sense was the only thing stopping her from teaching thid apprentice a lesson. Deciding to take her fury out on the fish, she began wading into the water. The coolness lapped at her fur and numbed the rage building up inside of her. Ah, the river truly was a blessing from Starclan. Thank goodness for it.

The brown and white warrior then waited, watching intently as silver bodies moved around her, probably thinking she was a log or something. They were completrly unsuspecting of what would come next. As one fish came dangerously close, she struck it with her paw and onto the bank. She gazed as it flopped pathetically for a few moments, before going still forever. Humming, she looked towards Flurrypaw, a smug look on her face, before she returned to watching the river.

"I think we have fished enough now, before we wipe out all the fish in the river. Plus, we have succeeded in catching exactly twice as much fish as Tawnyfang, so I think it's fine," Hillpaw decided, smirking at how much bigger the fish pile he and Flurrypaw shared was than Tawnyfang. Six to three. Well, all three of them had caught the same amount, but that was still something for apprentices to be proud of. He bet that ThunderClan patrols didn't bring back this much prey. Looking quizzically at their pile, he wondered how he would be able to carry three fish at once. Then as he looked at the fluffy white pelt of the apprentice next to him, he wondered how she could carry her fish without getting fish slime all over her. Trying to pick up four fish now, to be nice to this pretty she-cat, he grasped two fish in his jaws and tucked two more between his chin and chest. Awkwardly, he began to walk back towards camp.

Flurrypaw watched as the cat whom she now had a crush on after this hunting patrol so chivalrously picked up four of the fish, leaving her with carrying the two smallest fish that they had collected. She purred gratefully, blinking at him fondly, before grabbing the remaining two fresh-kill by the tails and dragging them back to camp after Hillpaw. She was very eager to continue spending more time with the thoughtful, talented, handsome tom.
