Now That We're Out [Closed]

Getting Bonepaw out of his nest was not an easy feat, and it was something that Dustcloud never failed to face, every morning. But as the pair grew a more complex relationship, sharing their opinions and thoughts constantly, it grew much easier as the moons flew by. Both of them trusted each other, and behind the teacher and student relationship that every warrior held with their apprentices, there was something akin to friendship, something that helped them see through their differences. They'd both become more comfortable around one another, and the much younger toms constant puns never failed to bring a smile to the senior warriors face. As they made their way across the territory, Dustcloud made sure to let Bonepaw take the lead. Well, she tried, at least.

Bonepaw let out a slightly loud yawn as he almost dragged his paws across the grassy floor of the forest instead of actually walking, eyes half closed as he purposely slowed down each time his mentor got anywhere behind his shoulders. His paws were literally carrying him to wherever they wanted, he knew he was supposed to lead this small hunting patrol, but just like always when training he wasn’t exactly interested in doing so and kept it to the bare minimum.

Hey, the forest was full of prey, and he was supposed to guide them to a place with prey…so anywhere was good, right?

"S-Stop, Bonepaw." The she-cat muttered, coming to a stop where the two cats stood. "We'll st-start here t-today." Signaling for the young tom to begin hunting, she diverged paths with him just a bit before sniffing the air around her. She made sure to keep Bonepaw in her peripheral vision, in light of the fact that she knew he wouldn't do anything if she didn't. When the sweet scent of a sparrow drifted across her nose, she followed it carefully. When the small bird of prey came into her sights, she grinned, leaping towards it nearly perfectly. Before the bird had a chance to fly away, she had it between her jaws. As always, she said a silent prayer to StarClan before burying it below her.

Bonepaw nodded lazily as he watched at his mentor immediately start to look around for prey to hunt. With a deep sigh he started to smell the air, if anything hunting was one of the chores he hated the least, after all, warrior path or not he and the clan still had to eat to survive, even if just for a bit longer…so in his eyes this was one of the tasks that still held some kind of meaning.

He allowed his paws to wander aimlessly as he kept searching for something, eyes already closed lazily as he allowed his ears and nose to do all the work…and eventually they came out successful as the scent of mouse and the sounds it made as it nibbled on some kind of seed were made clear for her. He quickly got into position, approaching the mouse guided by scent and sound only.

A quick pounce, his jaws closing when he could feel the rodent's body heat on his tongue...and the deed was done. He got up and half-opened his eyes, a now limp mouse hanging from his mouth. He looked at where his mentor had buried her prey and dug a small hole right next to it to bury his own. While his photographic memory would allow him to retrieve his prey regardless of where he left it, he would rather pick it up all at once than going from spot to spot for it, doubling the work he had to do.

Smiling contentedly when the young cat caught a whiff of a mouse nearby, she continued in her search for her own piece of prey. Making sure to remember where she had previously buried the bird into the loosely packed dirt, she set off in the opposite direction. She lifted her nose into the air, slightly nodding subconsciously when the familiar scent of a squirrel drifted through the air and, conveniently, right in front of her. Keeping the same pace she had before, Dustcloud made sure to stay in the right direction as not to frighten the small creature. Leaping towards it when the small, bushy tail finally came into view, she landed square on its back. She hadn't even needed to deliver a killing blow, for the simple weight of the pregnant she-cat on the small animals back was enough to kill it.
