Falconkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Leaping up onto the tallbranch, Tinylegs gave his pelt a shake, ready to conduct another apprentice ceremony. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather here for a clan meeting!" the small, white and grey tom called out.

The dark brown tom-kit looked up as the ceremony was called. His bright amber eyes curious as he watched the cats gather, then made his way to the crowd. He had just learned how to climb trees recently, despite his mother's wishes. That meant he was old enough, right?

Waiting a few moments for cats to gather, he spotted Falconkit among the growing crowd and decided to begin. "We gather here today to give a kit their apprentice name," he mewed, his soft blue gaze looking down the kit. "Falconkit, please step forward," the short tom mewed, giving a curt dip of his head to the younger cat. "You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this point, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Falconpaw. Your mentor will be Firflower. I trust that she will teach you well and pass on all of her knowledge of the warrior code onto you," Tinylegs finished, a smile on his muzzle. After that, he leapt down from the tallbranch and concluded the ceremony as the chants for the newly named apprentice rose up into the air.

As Falconkit's name was spoken, the little brown tom stepped out from his clanmates. His amber eyes looking curiously around to see who would become his mentor. His tail twitched excitedly at the prospect of the training. Getting out of camp and really being able to hunt, to climb and even to fight. When his mentor was named, he stepped out to greet her with a confident stride.
"Hiya Firflower!" He mewed cheerfully in excitement, then paused. Wait a second, wasn't Firflower part deaf? For a moment, Falconpaw felt confused, but shoved it away. So what if she was. He could more than compensate.

Firflower watched Tinyleg's maw carefully. This was an apprentice ceremony; yes, there was a young cat below the Tallbranch. His name was Falconkit, Falconpaw now, and she could see his resemblance to the great birds of prey she could see occasionally soaring the skies above the treetops. Then... 'Me?' Had he said her name? Well sure enough, the young tom came trotting towards her. Pushing her confusion and surprise away, the she-cat purred gently and touched noses with Falconpaw. If her mentor trained a cat who couldn't hear, then surely Firflower could do the opposite!
