Sandpaws Hunt

Sleepyyawn stood in front of the apprentice den waiting for the senior apprentice. "Sandpaw?"

Sandpaw stuck his head out. "Yeah?"

"Its time for a little hunting practice. Ready?" He asked.

Sandpaw shot out. "Yes!" He looked up at Sleepyyawn with excitement filling his eyes.

"Alright, lets get there quick. One, two, three, GO!" Sleepyyawn bursted from the camp towards the river. "Last one there is crowfood!" He yelled as his tail disappeared through the entrance.

Sandpaw bolted after him.

Sleepyyawn sprinted beside Sandpaw. "Everything is a lesson! This little race could be a skill that saves your life one day." He did a small headbutt to Sandpaw, hinting him to try to knock him over.

Sandpaw moved to the side and knocked into Sleepyyawn.

"Woah!" He tripped over his feet and tumbled. He got back up without shaking himself to meet Sandpaw in the perfect hunting spot. "We will save the rest of the moves for your battle practice. But before you learn to battle you need to hunt. Its just like fighting a unfocused enemy." He said.

Sandpaw soaked up every word Sleepyyawn said. He hoped he would become a warrior soon. Someone was waiting for him. "So where are we hunting?" He asked.

"Well, the smartest prey have probably hid by the river as a quick escape. Lets try there." He suggested.

Sandpaw nodded and followed swiftly.

Sleepyyawn stopped in a veil of reeds. "What do you smell?" He asked Sandpaw.

Sandpaw sniffed the air. "Fish... and... shrew. I think." Sandpaw said.

Sleepyyawn spotted the shrew Sandpaw had smelled. "Okay, put your belly to the ground, and stalk through the reeds until you are a tail length away. Watch out for any loose leaves that may give you away." He whispered.
