Namesake [closed]

Brushing past a particularly thick swath of fragrant reeds, Sunpaw hardly made any sound as she continued to wander alongside the riverbank, gradually trekking deeper and deeper into the territory. Now that the majority of her training was being wrapped up, she had been granted the freedom of being able to wander the territory as she pleased- so long as Jaystream or Lilytail didn't catch sight of her out by her lonesome. The soft chattering of the rapidly moving river effectively swallowed most of the sounds produced by the forest, rendering the young tabby nearly completely unaware of what was lurking nearby.

Sunpaw was out and about, exploring the borders and hoping that no warriors caught her sneaking around. What was life abiding by the rules, anyway? Spending all her time in SkyClan's camp or pestering warriors to take her out on patrol was no fun.

Suddenly, she found attention drawn to the other side of the river. Was that another cat, or simply some kind of an illusion?

Sunpaw's whiskers twitched as she continued to gently pick her way past the luscious foliage that unfolded around her, the soft grasses slowly giving way to sandy banks flecked with smooth stones. Casting her gaze out across the river and in the direction of the opposite bank, the little tabby's ears folded slightly as she was able to pick out a ginger pelt. "What are you doing out so close to the river?" A touch of wariness plagued Sunpaw's tone, which was only barely discernible over the gentle hum of the river.

"Exploring," Sunpaw replied easily. "What are you doing so close to the river?" Wait, that was probably a stupid question - RiverClan lived on the other side of the river. It was kind of like someone else asking a SkyClan why they spent so much time in the trees, wasn't it? Well, she wasn't going to let herself be embarrassed over one stupid question.

"What am I doing so close to the river?" Sunpaw echoed, brow raising slightly at the other she-cats words. Was she serious? Soft features twisting down into a disbelieving and frustrated frown, she hardly realized that her paws had guided her forwards into the swirling, gentle currents of the river before her. "Are you really asking a RiverClan cat why they're so close to the river?" Wading out deeper until her toes could no longer brush against the smooth stones that laid beneath the surface of the river, the young tabby's sleek fur rapidly became drenched as she swam forward without a single falter. Her intentions were hardly malicious, she could promise anyone that, but somehow the opposing she-cat's words had managed to strike a cord. Scratch that, the entire situation seemed to radiate annoyance- were they both equal idiots?

Rivulets of chilly river water slipped from Sunpaw's glossy fur as she pulled herself free of the river and out onto the bank where the SkyClanner stood. Grappling desperately with the tidal wave of hesitation that coiled within her gut, it took the little tabby a heartbeat or two to work up the courage to reach over and grasp the other she-cat by her tail before yanking. Hard.

Sunpaw used Tail Yank, Dealing -2 in Damage & Costing -10 in Stamina.
