Finding Prey (Now closed)

Swoopnose wanted to get some fresh air. Just clear his mind, do some hunting, and have a nice day. The new season was bringing welcome change, his kits were almost ready to become warriors, and everyone was happy. All the cluttered confusion in his mind had to go so that he could focus on those things alone. Hopefully a bit of hunting would do the trick. Padding over to the exit of camp, he took in the scent of the forest. Lush and prey rich. Smiling, he turned to face the bustling camp. When he was younger, purely not talking to him would make his heart race. Now, just knowing everyone hear cared for each other was enough to keep him feeling secure. Still, he would never go out of camp alone. But he was confident someone here would be more than willing to go on a hunting patrol with him, so he fortunately didn't get all worked up about it. "Anyone want to go on a hunting patrol with me?"

Forestpaw was grooming herself when she heard Swoopnose call for a hunting patrol. She stopped grooming her glossy tortoiseshell coat and stood up. She stretched quickly before padding over to Swoopnose. "Can I come?" She asked. She wouldn't mind hunting a bit, after all she'd been relaxing all day and she too needed to contribute to the clan.

Emberheart looked over to the camp entrance, spotting Swoopnose waiting patiently. He was quickly approached by Forestpaw, and a slight amount of inference told her this was likely a patrol. Slowly, she rose to her paws and padded over.

"Going on a patrol, by any chance?" she asked, feeling a rush of excitement. She hadn't been able to do much hunting since leafbare ended, and had honestly embraced that wholeheartedly after how much they had needed to then, but now she was starting to feel the aftereffects of not doing anything of note for a while.

"You can both come. Let's get going," Swoopnose decided after his two clanmates joined him. It wasn't the biggest patrol ever, but it would do for a bit of hunting. Turning to face the exit of camp, he began to pad out into the forest. The moment the sandy stone underpass gave way to soil, he let his smile grow. ThunderClan territory was better than he had ever seen it before. The trees were greener, the air was warmer, and the prey was more plentiful. Newleaf was a paradise that he was glad had arrived. Scenting the air, he caught the scent of a mouse. Tracing the creature a small distance, he noticed the small rodent near the roots of a tree. Easy catch, hopefully. Crouching down, he stalked closer to it, taking every caution to be silent. Once close enough, he lunged for the mouse, making sure to keep neat and quiet. Slamming a paw down on top of the creature first, he then leaned down and finished it with a quick bite to the back of its neck.

Forestpaw followed the small patrol  into the forest and lifted her nose to scent the breeze. She picked up the scent of wood pigeon and followed it until she could see it's small grey and teal body. She couched down and stalked the bird with light pawsteps. Once she was close enough, Forestpaw lept on it just as it was taking off. She brought it down with a swing with her oaw, and killed it with a swift bite to the neck. She quickly buried her prey and padded off in the direction of the group.

Emberheart scrambled partway up a nearby tree, keeping an eye on the bushes. After a moment, she heard a rustling sound, and spotted the bushy tail of a squirrel. She waited a few moments for it to emerge, and jumped down, hoping to land on top of it. She didn't quite judge the gap correctly, but caught up to it swiftly and managed to pin it under her paw before it could get far, killing it with a single, swift bite.

Swoopnose nodded in congratulations as his clanmates made their catches. They almost had enough to go back to camp now, and he would like to get at least one more piece of food. Scenting the air, the gray warrior caught scent of just the thing he was looking for. Following its trail a small distance, his green eyes located the small creature. Rabbits were uncommon in ThunderClan territory, but they were tasty and bigger than mice. He smiled, remembering fondly the day that he and Birchheart had discovered one. That had been nice. Crouching low, he approached his target, making sure not to make a single noise or trod too heavily. Once close enough, he crouched, and then pounced, pinning the rabbit with his paws upon landing. A swift bite to the neck followed, making it a clean kill. Wispering his thanks to StarClan, the tom picked up his catch and carried it back to the others.
