Scorchfang had given her another apprentice on top of Thornpaw, but she didn't really mind. She loved being in charge of the bright, young cats. They'll make up the warrior ranks in the future, so might as well take the assignment as an honor. It was a little nerve-wracking with her first apprentice, plus her father's death happening around that time, and she didn't take Russetfang out very much. She regretted it dearly, but afterwards, she had vowed to never let her emotions get in the way of another apprentice's training.

So when she had finished eating her toad, she rounded up the young cats. "Ratpaw! Thornpaw! Come on, I'm taking y'all on a hunting patrol." She meowed, flicking her tail towards the entrance with an amiable smile.

Kestrelpaw walked out of the apprentice's den with a happy attitude. The young tom was ready for the day. He looked over at Olivelily after she called for her two apprentices. He bounded over to her. "Hey Olivelily! Can I come too? I can sure use some time to hunt!" he purred.

Ratpaw had been sitting on the edge of camp, the sunlight falling on his dark fur. A small stone sat between his paws, subject to his admiration all morning... until the little tabby heard Olivelily's voice call out to him, ringing across camp.

His pale eyes rose; ear flicking as he carefully moved his stone to an untouched corner of camp. His new name still felt foreign in his ears -- as did his new nest among the apprentices. In the nursery, Ratpaw often had a corner to himself, but among the apprentices it felt... harder, somehow. To have his space.

But he didn't mind Olivelily. Her voice was pleasant, and she didn't seem pushy or loud, like some of his fellow kits were. And so Ratpaw didn't feel as uneasy as he might have when he padded toward the entrance at her call.

"I'm here," he said quietly, nodding hello to the older she-cat. His eyes scanned the cats for Olivelily's other apprentice, Thornpaw.

The mangled apprentice stalked from the dirtplace at her mentor's call, tail flicking in mild irritation. She didn't want to be here. She took passing notice of Kestrelpaw's familiar pelt, but dismissed it. He wasn't particularly well known to her. With that, she turned her fern green eye to the little tabby near her mentor. It struck her as odd that Scorchfang had given Olivelily a second apprentice what with Thornpaw already being here, but then again Thornpaw wasn't too far off from becoming a warrior herself. She dipped her head in greeting to him, then realized the kit might be afraid of her.

She looked like a monster after all.

At least the package matched the contents.

She knew her appearance was unsettling now. Large body, dark tabby fur, elongated claws, tattered ears, and not a single cat in the forest could miss the patches of missing fur along her pelt, or the large, jagged scar over her missing right eye. She was a mess, and everyone knew it. Leveling a halfhearted glare at her mentor, Thornpaw nodded to her. "Ready to go."
