Do the hunting (Closed)

Dewshine lapped quietly at the water at the camp's edge. It wasn't freezing cold this time, which tasted a litle strange, but it also didn't numb her tongue. She swiped over her jaws hungrily. Her fur freshly groomed after her nap. She had been on the dawn patrol and snuck the opportunity to catch a small bit of sleep. Now, she felt energised and ready to take on the forest. Her gaze fell on the camp entrance, a small smile on her muzzle. Hunting would be perfect. She looked around the clearing for available cats. Spotfur stuck out immediately. Her smile turned shy as she approached him.

"Spotfur..." Her voice faltered briefly. Once she had harboured a crush on the other tom, and sometimes she still felt that way, the feeling made her pelt prickle uncomfortably as she knew he had a mate already. Her gaze caught an apprentice, and she leapt at the opportunity to make this not awkward. Though she had always been a quiet cat, perhaps he wouldn't notice. She cleared her throat and tried again.

"Spotfur, Mudpaw... do you want to go on a hunting patrol with me?" She asked, her tail flicked nervously.

Mudpaw looked up when he heard the older cat. He bounded up to her smiling. He really didn't know her but it was a good time as any to meet her. He looked at his father and smiled. This was going to be his first time out with his father since that awful event at the river.

Spotfur followed his son. "Try not to fall in again, Mudpaw." He said with a wink. "We'll come hunting, sure!" He looked back up at Dewshine.

Dewshine smiled at Mudpaw's enthusiasm. She looked at Spotfur and nodded, her discomfort fading as she led them out of camp and to a place along the river's edge.
"Don't fall in the river at least." She teased playfully on the way. She stopped to assess the area with a calm gaze. "This looks like a good spot."

Mudpaw hated what dewshine said and stayed closer to Spotfur. He started at the waters edge and hissed, shaking all over, he shiver next to his father.

Spotfur nudged Mudpaw. "What is it? Do you smell a patrol? A predator?" His son was acting odd, like he saw a monster in the water. He flipped out a fish. That was all there was in the water.

The silver she-cat felt bad when it looked like Mudpaw was unhappy. She hadn't meant to offend the apprentice, only tease him a little. She looked at Spotfur, curious to see if he would say anything, but he said nothing. Dewshine paused her following as the scent of vole hit her nose. She turned and began to follow it carefully to the water's edge. Her ears flattened when Mudpaw hissed, the vole took off running, but she was faster. Her silver fur a bright flash against the newly budding greenery as she snagged the water vole before it could even cry out. She padded back to Mudpaw and Spotfur, burying it near them.

"Are you alright Mudpaw?" She asked, now that her catch was secure. Her blue eyes concerned about the apprentice's hissing at the water.

He shivered but looked up at the cats. "ummm..ya..I'm..fine.." he said in a shaky voice. He looked at the water one more time and with one last shiver walked into the forest. He sniffed the air but could only smell the river. He sighed and kept trying.

Spotfur looked at Dewshine, face showing his concern for Mudpaw. "I don't know what's going on with him. He used to be so happy and adventurous..." He decided to catch more prey. Another fish, dead. Sometimes it was boring.

Dewshine looked into the forest while Spotfur hooked another fish. She glanced back at him, then at the woods. It wasn't her place to suggest it, but at the same time...
"Maybe you should talk to him?" She suggested softly, her gaze turned to the water. "Did something happen?" She asked as a fish flashe under the current. Close, just a little closer... Her paw reached out swiftly to hook into it and pull the silver fish onto the bank. She looked back up at Spotfur. "Unless you want me to do it?" She asked softly.

Mudpaw sighed. He knew dewshine didn't know about his fear but it still made him a little mad that she joked about drowning after what happened to him. He wasn't in the mood for hunting and walked back to the others.
