Fernkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Ashstar leapt onto the Tallrock. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" she yowled. It was almost newleaf, and she was enjoying the warmth and the hope of life in the air. WindClan would be strong.

Fernkit's bright green eyes shone with pure joy, rushing out from the nursery to the center of the clearing, actually tripping over her paws on the way there. She trembled with excitement, her fluffy gray tabby fur bushed out and her tail swishing to and fro behind her.

Gustpuddle walked away from where the warriors slept, her grey fur slightly bristled and her muscles aching. Her ears flicked, looking at the young kit that walked forward. She'd missed having children of her own, and felt like Hollowbranch hardly even bothered to call her his mother. She hadn't wished it to be that way. She looked longingly at the kit, a smile on her face nonetheless.

Swiftstep was sitting near to where his daughter was. He sat tall and proud. The warrior was proud of his daughter. She was certainly excited herself. She reminded him of his beloved Fernfeather. The tom pushed the thoughts down as he watched the young cat wait for her apprentice ceremony. Today was her special day and he wasn't going to feel down.

Ashstar nodded at the young kit. She looked exactly like her mother. For a moment Ashstar was tempted to give the young she-cat to Quailfeather, but thought better of it. "Fernkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Fernpaw. Lionstorm will be your mentor. I hope he will pass down all he knows on to you."

The newly named Fernpaw grinned widely with excitement, and she began looking through the crowd of cats in search of her new mentor. When she found the cat she had seen on a few occasions being referred to as Lionstorm by their Clanmates, she bolted over to him and nuzzled his bushy mane-like fur on his chest. "You're my new mentor? Yay! I'm so excited to start training! This is gonna be the best!"

Lionstorm blinked in surprise, he'd only just been entrusted with Cranepaw's training, he hadn't expected another apprentice so soon. As he padded forward he barely made it two tail-lengths before the excitable Fernpaw reached him, and he had to admit, her excitement was infectious. The large cat chuckled at her antics and dipped his head to touch noses, "I look forward to training with you as well Fernpaw, grab something to eat and we'll get started immediately." He spoke warmly, the young apprentice had seemingly already endeared herself to the battle-scarred warrior.
