Poplartooth kept a calm, neutral, emotionless expression as he sat near the camp entrance and waited for his patrol which consisted of his sister and an apprentice. He hadn't had the chance to see Brokenpaw in action before, so now he'd be able to make an analysis. All the fluffy warrior could hope for was that the young apprentice wasn't annoying... Poplartooth hated annoying, rambunctious apprentices with a deep, burning passion. The tom's tail lashed as he let out an impatient huff. He didn't have all day, and he wasn't prepared to sit there for moons and moons just so that they could take their time to come to him.

Blossomheart walked up to Poplartooth. They were heading on a hunting patrol today.

Brokenpaw was given his first hunting patrol today, and was less than thrilled about it. Although he had enjoyed hunting with his mentor, this required him to go with two other cats he didn't even know much about. It was nerve-wracking to have to do this with two cats new to him who were already warriors.

He saw Poplartooth and Blossomheart at the entrance of the camp as he made his way over. "I'm Brokenpaw," he spoke to the two when he drew near. Well that's dumb, of course they probably knew that, he thought.

Poplartooth nodded with approval as the two of them padded over, but he couldn't help but shoot Brokenpaw a bit of a confused glance. He had already known that. Were apprentices these days still dumb? Hiding back his thoughts, he signaled for his patrol to follow him by jerking his head towards the camp exit and leaving almost immediately after his curt action.
"Just because I don't want any deaths or injuries to be blamed on the leader of the patrol, which is me, I suggest that you stay close to a warrior while you hunt, Brokenpaw."
When the fluffy tom said 'suggest', his tone practically said 'I'm ordering you to stay close to a warrior'. If Brokenpaw decided to be stupid and branch off far away on his own, then it wouldn't be Poplartooth's fault; he had warned him.
"Let's not take all day. We'll each go for three pieces and head back when we're done."

Poplartooth then stalked off in an attempt to find some prey. The bird that he spotted had a nest up in the tree that it was near, and it was apparently poking around in the soil so that it could find some worms to bring back to its young. That didn't stop the tom from wanting to kill it, though. Crouching down and silently bringing himself towards the winged creature, he narrowed his eyes and let out a soundless breath. Then, he leaped. To his satisfaction, he landed squarely on top of the bird, which let out a call of alarm before being silenced with a bite to the neck. Taking pride in his catch, the fluffy tom buried his prey near the tree and set off in search of his next tiny victim.

Blossomheart nodded and set off to find her own prey. She pounced on a mouse, only to find it scrambling away.

Brokenpaw knew he was young, but he was a little put off by Poplartooth's statement. He wasn't completely stupid. At least it was good to know where he stood with this new cat though, as he decided he would aim to stick closer to Blossomheart. With Poplartooth's grumpy mood in mind, Broken almost wanted to let him know that he didn't really want to be here either, but of course had to pull his weight in gathering food for the clan.

He tried to make the best of it though, and began scouting near Blossomheart. He noticed her prepare to go after a mouse and kept his eye on it while waiting for the scent of something else to come to him. So when she missed, he was prepared to go after it himself. He took a hopping step closer before pouncing after the running mouse.

A little surprised with himself, he felt the mouse squish a little under his front paws, and quickly reached down to bite it's neck. "Got it!", he said excitedly looking toward Blossomheart. Silently he was hoping she was ok with him going after her mouse after it had scurried away, rather than possibly being offended and thinking he was trying to prove himself better.
