A little nightmare{open}

Mudpaw woke with a start. He had yet another nightmare about drowning. He wished that he could sleep one day in peace but nope he always had a nightmare. He stood up, shook his fur, and left the apprentice den.

The camp was eerily quiet when Mosskit wriggled out from the nursery. Too quiet, he thought. But even though the silence unnerved him, the cold, fresh air of the camp hit him with a gust of energy!

His mother was sleeping -- and Tinytip insisted he be, too -- but Mosskit didn't work like that. No -- he itched with restlessness and his limbs tingled! Mosskit knew he could only stare at the wall for so long before he lost his mind. So "nest time" or no "nest time", Mosskit was going to find something to do! So he stepped out enthusiastically, hoping to find a game or other to amuse himself.

The first thing Mosskit noticed, though, was that things looked different that night. Like, really different! Tinytip had pointed them out to him before -- the shining figures in the sky; Starclan -- but tonight they were so much clearer! And so many of them! Mosskit gasped. The camp was cast in shadows, moonlight and Starclan shimmering over the river surrounding them, and it was all just so pretty! And exciting!

It was like a whole new camp to explore!

Mosskit quivered with the prospect of it, and bounded from the nursery toward the apprentice den -- only to run smack into another cat!

OCC: I can wait to post if there's a better time, or you were waiting for someone. cx Also if you didn't plan on it being night (if Mud was napping, etc) -- I just assumed.

(lol it's open so anyone can join and ya it was night time. He barely naps because his dreams are worst during the day.)

Mudpaw looked down at the little kit and smiled. "what are you doing up so late little one?" he asked him.

Mosskit stumbled back a little, almost thinking it was his mother, coming to drag him back to the pits of boredom... But instead, the little black kit looked up to find a brown tom smiling down at him. He was taller than Mosskit, but not super tall -- it was an apprentice!

Apprentices were either super nice or super mean, but this one looked nice. Maybe he would play with him!

"Oh, I couldn't sleep -- so I'm just playing!" Mosskit said excitedly -- before remembering his mother's chastising, and how he was too loud... The kit flicked his ear as he lowered his voice, still vibrating with energy. "Or, well, I'm about to play! I haven't figured out what to play yet -- it's night, you know, and playing at night's different from day. Oh! Do you wanna play with me? If you're not busy."

He smiled at the excited little kit. "sure I'm not doing anything so could use a distraction." he said smiling.

Mosskit jumped in the air a little, beaming. Yes! "Thank you! Thank you! But, oh -- what should we do?"

Nighttime games must be different from daytime ones. Mosskit couldn't see as well, for one -- but that probably didn't matter much with most games. Hmm... What should he and his new friend do...?

"Oh! Oh! I know!" he said, an idea dawning on him. "Let's play hide and seek!"

He smiled at her. "ok sure little one do you wanna hide first?" he asked her.

"Oh! I will! I will!" Mosskit volunteered enthusiastically. He loved to hide! And -- well -- he also loved to seek, too. But hiding was fun!

And just like that, Mosskit took off -- darting across camp. His all-black coat blended in to the darkness around him, making it difficult to spot him as the energetic kit ran. Oh! Where should he hide? It had to be really, really good!

He crouched by the elder's den, out of sight; still thinking of a perfect place to hide... Mosskit had played this game before, and it was tough because cats could always smell him. He was downwind of Mudpaw, too! So he needed to go where Mudpaw couldn't tell...

With a grin, the little black kit darted over to the nursery -- but instead of going inside, he went around it, jumping into the cluster of free reeds behind. It hid his dark pelt quite nicely -- and better yet, he'd hear Mudpaw coming! That way he could run before the apprentice caught him.
