Drizzlekit had been staring very intently at a stray leaf that had managed to drift into the den. Her grey/blue eyes focused so hard on it that she hadn't noticed Mumblefoot walk in. Just as the little ball of fluff pounced, her father's voice surprised her and she landed wrong. After rolling a tail-length or so, she stopped on her back staring up at him. "Good morning mama!" the she-kit mewed happily, popping to her feet in a heartbeat and bumping her head against his chest with a purr.

The tom then ushered her out of the nursery and into the busy camp. She hadn't had a change to even wonder what it was that was going on before her memory called up an image of one of the loud cats talking on the big tree about some sort of game the game would all play today. "What are we going to do mama? Can we go with the apprentices too?"

Brokenpaw was mildly excited for the chance to hunt basically by himself. He realized he was being watched, but still it was more independence than before. He quickly made his way up into the trees, remaining low in the branches to look for a squirrel. Finally when he spotted one, he prepared, and sprung to attack. He caught it in his front claws, and made a quick kill of it.

Dandeliondapple watched with mild amusement as each apprentice went after their share of prey. It reminded her of when she was young and charging headlong into each task. Once some of them returned with something to show for it, she decided to give out the next task so nobody was left waiting for more. With a clear voice, she said, "For those who have caught a squirrel, I'd like to see..." A quick scenting and she had something in mind. "Some rodents. There's a burrow or two nearby."

Squirrel... squirrel... As soon as Rippedsky announced the prey they were to catch, Tigerpaw took off to find a squirrel. She didn't follow the other apprentices, heading off in a direction no one else had taken. Blood racing with the thrill of the hunt, she swept her bold yellow eyes around her, trying to take in every detail. Before long, she found her target clinging to the trunk of a tree. Her paws slowed, and she silently sneaked up on it. As soon as she was close enough, she sprung at it. She successfully knocked the squirrel to the ground, and before it could recover, her fangs were sinking into it. The rodent went limp in jaws and Tigerpaw stood up. Time to go back and show off my catch, she thought with a glimmer of pride.

Rodents, that's what his mother had called for next. He enjoyed killing the dumb animals, even if they were easier to catch from the ground rather than the trees. Brokenpaw lifted his nose to catch the scent his mother had picked, and recognized it the opposite direction. He took off at a quick jog towards the closer burrow, and after a minute could hear the tiny creatures scurrying around. He waited momentarily and, there! One of the idiots came out of the burrow and into the grass. Brokenpaw got himself set to pounce, just a few more inches and its would be close enough. Now! He jumped.

The creature must have heard him, he wasn't as skilled from the ground. The kill was a little messy, but dead was still dead, and it counted as his required catch. He turned to return to his mother and the others, seeking his final mission. Why was he getting excited for this? He didn't much care for winning a title, but hopefully he could feast on his catch afterwards, and not have to do any extra training today.

Sedgepaw listened to the task, then looked at Rippedsky with a bored expression. Squirrels were something he caught all the time, every apprentice had caught one at some point. He yawned as the rules were explained, his pace casual as he followed the other apprentices who darted out, eager to be the fastest. There was no need for that. He already was the best apprentice.

He scented a squirrel and followed the trail dutifully. Sure enough, a good sized grey squirrel was undigging a new nut from it's stores. Slowly, he crept forward, dark spots blended him into the bush behind him, silver pelt the snow below. Snow crunched beneath his paws which sent the squirrel's head up. Then heard the flap of heavy wings. Immediately he scrambled into the bush behind him as an eagle swooped down and ... it STOLE his prey! He leapt out of the bush and yowled at the indignity and rudeness of that blasted bird.

Now, once Ripplepaw deposited her bushy red squirrel and learnt that the next piece of prey was rodents, she already had a plan forming in her mind. The young apprentice climbed a tree once more, springing off in the opposite direction to last time. She kept her gaze on the ground beneath her, trying to get a birds-eye view. This way, she would easily be able to spot a burrow, and be able to climb down and catch the best prey. After a little while, she clung onto the trunk of one tree, gazing down below, where two mice were sniffing around outside their burrow. Perfect. She climbed down the tree, concealing herself from their view by staying round the back, her unsheathed claws itching to catch them. Unfortunately, they were alerted by a rustling sound, and darted back into safety. Ripplepaw gave a huff of annoyance. Was another apprentice ruining her chance? She could have caught that! She shook her head and darted away.

Redkit looked instantly crestfallen, his bushy tail drooping, "I wouldn't get hurt," he muttered to himself disappointedly, Rippedsky's words penetrated the young kit's gloom, "I can fight?" He asked excitedly running around his father's paws at top speed, "I'm going to win every fight, just like you!"

Tigerpaw deposited her catch and set off again, this time in search of a rodent. It took a little longer than previously, but she managed to find one. A small mouse crouched at the base of a shrub, munching on a berry it had foraged. Treading lightly, she approached it as quietly as possible. Just as she was about to pounce, she stepped on a twig. As the crack resounded through the air, both the mouse and Tigerpaw burst into action. With a kick of her hind legs, Tigerpaw caught up to the mouse right before it could reach the safety of its burrow. She seized the struggling rodent and swiftly ended its life. It had been a close one. The mouse had almost managed to escape.
