A Strange Reunion

It was dark. The sun shone weakly, low in the sky and half-hidden by patches of clouds swollen with rain. Already the purple-blue haze of night was settling over the forest, although it was still a few hours from sunset. All in all, Willowheart thought to herself, the weather was peculiar today. Perhaps that's why she chose today to go for a short walk. She wasn't usually one to go out on her own, but today seemed like the right day to leave camp. Besides, it was rather annoying, being around her clanmates for so long. Since he had discovered that Willowheart was having a litter, Ryeheart hadn't left her alone. Although she knew he meant well, Willowheart needed time alone, space to think. But, as it turned out, her short walk to Fourtrees wasn't going to be peaceful for long. Willowheart had been walking silently, placing one webbed paw in front of the other carefully so as not to disturb any of the wildlife, but her ears pricked as several twigs cracked ahead. Instantly she ducked down, her yellow eyes glowing with curiosity- after all, she was in Fourtrees. Besides, what cat would attack a pregnant she-cat?

"I know that its been terribly long since I've come to visit you, but my paws have been quite full since my last litter was born- I swear, they've given me a muzzle full of grey fur already. They've grown so much already, but every time I turn around, they're causing some sort of trouble!" Splashwillow murmured softly, reaching out to smooth away the debris that had fallen upon the small stone that sat before her. A freshly-picked flower sat against the unmarked stone, the brightly colored petals already wilting in the weak light of day. Why Silentstorm had chosen to bury Sparkwillow here, she'd never understand, but she often found the silence provided by Fourtrees to be comforting on days like this. "But can you believe how big Minnowslip and Snowblossom have gotten? It seems like they were born just yesterday, but yet they're already off training their own apprentices! But enough about me, how have you been? I'm sure that you've gotten to meet both Tigerpaw and Sparkkit now. Have you been taking care of them for me-" The soft sound of pawsteps halted Splashwillow's train of thought, making her voice abruptly trail off as she peered out from within her little alcove of ferns.

Although she could easily pick up the strangely familiar scent of ShadowClan, it was quite a struggle for her to try and pick out any cat-like shapes in the heavy foliage that encircled the sacred meeting place. "Silentstorm? Is that you?" Splashwillow finally called, wariness practically dripping from her brief words.
