Toning down (closed)

Sedgepaw trudged back to camp. His head ached from his earlier fight with Echoflame. He glanced back at the black and white she-cat. She seemed a little distracted. He huffed, then flicked some snow at her with his paw.
"Gotcha!" He declared loudly, then winced. His ears flattened at the sound of his own voice. He lowered himself to the ground between the Apprentices and the warriors dens. "So, what did you space out about earlier anyways?" He asked. A small question in the back of his mind asked why he cared? He had never cared about asking other clan mates stupid questions like that. Normally he laughed at them, was what could be considered mean to them, though he felt no shame in that. They'd toughen up or be useless, and no cat should be so disgraceful as to be useless.

Echoflame let out a small giggle and flicked the snow off her face. Echoflame settled in besides him, not noticing any discomfort. "My love for SkyClan, simply." She said with a nod. "SkyClan and it's trees are the best out of the whole forest. I'd defend it to the death." She nudged his shoulder with her paw, but couldn't quite form the question she was going to ask, so she dropped it awkwardly and turned her head away in embarrassment.

He glanced at her as she settled next to him. He tried not to show that he was a little surprised. Sedgepaw was aware that his own personality drove most cats away, but he accepted her company happily. Let himself relax next to her as he listened to her response with a small proud huff.
"It's a good thing you have me around to make sure you don't have to!" He declared as he ignored his headache. "I won't let anything hurt you or our clan." Sedgepaw tilted his head as she looked away. For a moment, his mind jumped to the conclusion that she might be laughing at him, but he didn't hear any laughter or see her shaking. He glanced towards the center of camp to check for other cats, then back to her. "Something wrong?" He asked after a few moments.

Echoflame grinned at his words then turned her attention back to him. "It's just, everyone just knows me as Rippedsky's daughter. It's really annoying." she paused, then scooted a little closer to the tom. What's it like being his apprentice?" she asked curiously, tilting her head. She had always wondered what it was like.

Sedgepaw kept his jaws clamped against the words that came to his mind first. The ones that lamented at least she had a living family. He barely remembered his parents, and without siblings he had simply been a random kit in the nursery. Oh sure, the other cats had cared for him, but he also felt disgusted at the weakness of his parents dying and leaving him alone in the clan. His eyes widened as she pressed closer against him, warmth flooded his cheeks and pelt, his ears flattened with embarrassement as he looked down at his paws.
"Annoying." He answered, his green eyes looked to hers as he answered her question quietly. "He keeps making me help the elders. He hasn't even bothered to take me hunting or even do real battle training." He paused, then smirked arrogance taking hold. "I think he's afraid of training me. Maybe he's scared I'll be too big of a warrior even for him!" His arrogant boast came at a cost. He flinched as his head reminded him of why he should really try to not declare things or speak so loudly.
