Brownkit's Apprentice Ceremony

The black leader leapt onto the Jaggedrock. With a huff, he cleared his phlegmy throat and called out to the clan. "Let all cats old enough to capture their own prey gather underneath Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!" It was time for another apprentice. Soon enough he'd run out of warriors to train them.

Brownkit walked out of the nursery and sat near Jaggedrock. She had no idea what this would be about, yet hope was in her that today would be the day she would be named Brownpaw.

"Brownkit, please step forward," The black tom called, watching with slightly tired eyes as the kit came forward. "You have reached the age of six moons, and are now ready to be apprenticed. From this day forth, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Brownpaw." While he knew the tom was only just named a warrior, part of him thought this would be a good opportunity to teach the warrior to respect his clanmates more, especially she-cats.

"Your mentor shall be Scorchfang. Congratulations." The leader jumped down from his perch and turned his eyes to the new mentor. He gave a warning glance. Scorchfang had shown himself to be quite passionate and determined, but seemed to lack a certain respect for the she-cats surrounding him. Perhaps a female mentor, and female apprentice could teach him something.

Scorchfang's eyes flew wide open. He was to be Brownpaw's mentor? And Magpiestar was okay with that? He knew the leader still felt fairly skeptical of him due to his past of disrespect towards others, especially she-cats, not to mention he was still a fairly new warrior of ShadowClan. Perhaps Magpiestar was just testing him? His thoughts were confirmed at the look he gave him. Refusing to shy away, he looked him in the eye resolutely, then bowed his head in understanding.

When the shock of it all ebbed away, excitement began bubbling up in its place. He was a mentor! And he had really grown to like Brownpaw as a kit anyway, so he was very glad to have been chosen to mentor her. He approached his new apprentice and touched noses with her. "I promise to be the best mentor I could be to you. Congratulations, Brownpaw."

Brownpaw looked at Scorchfang. Yes, he's my mentor! She thought. They were good friends when she was a kit so he would be a perfect mentor. "I will be the best apprentice I can be." She said.
