Keep Your Stance Wide, Keep Your Body Lowered (CLOSED)

Silverfang trotted through the reeds with energy filling her veins. This was the first training lesson of Frostpaw, her beloved daughter! The warrior promised herself that she would turn her into one of the most capable fighters in all the clan, just like her and her mother, Thistleblaze.

She only stopped when they reached the tall beech trees, in a common clearing used for different types of training. She glanced back at her apprentice with a serious and strict look and started today's training. "Okay, Frostpaw. We will train here, in the Beech Copse. First of all, any proper warrior must be strong and smart enough to defend the clan and his or her own life, that's why we will start with battle training. First, the basic defensive crouch. Look at me and then try to do it too." The silvery she-cat lowered her body just a bit, bristling her fur slightly as she leaned her body back a bit like she was ready to use her hind legs. She held up her tail and put her paws firmly on the ground.

Frostpaw followed in Silverfang's pawsteps, little legs briskly working to keep up with the older, bigger she-cat. The silver-and-white apprentice came to an abrupt stop on the sandy ground when they had reached their destination. Her green eyes gazed up at Silverfang as Frostpaw listened carefully to her instruction. She was seeing a side of her mother she hadn't had much experience with before. Being her mother's apprentice would add a whole new dynamic to their relationship. She swallowed hard, determined not to let Silverfang down and a little daunted at the seriousness of learning to defend oneself for her own sake and that of cats who would depend on her in the future.

The young she-cat in her sixth moon concentrated on watching her mentor's change in body posture so that she could mimic the behavior just right. Her own fur bristled out like Silverfang's and she crouched until her long belly fur brushed the sandy floor. Am I doing this right? she suddenly wondered. Her tail stood straight and rigid as her eyes locked with her mentor's.

The she-cat stood up in his regular position and approached her daughter with serious eyes. She walked around her, analyzing her position and she nodded, satisfied. "That's a good pose. However, your paws are a little weak, especially your hind legs. This is supposed to be a defensive crouch that won't allow enemies to throw you down so you must keep your paws firmly on the ground. You can even use our claws if you want so it's easier." Silverfang walked away one more time, after pressing gently the Frostpaw's hip so she would lower it more.

Her blue and yellow eyes looked at her and this time, she put herself into an offensive pose. Her back up, tail high, ears flattened to her skull, fur bristling and always keeping her sight on the enemy as she walked slowly around her daughter like she was about to ponce over her. "When it comes to attacking, you usually use first your hind paws. They can useful for jumping strikes or rearing up for a front attack. After that, you use your front paws. Those are the ones that really cause damage to your enemies. An honourable warrior never kills unless it is necessary so don't aim for the throat but you can hurt their faces with your claws. Eyes and the underbelly are always sensible spots." The warrior stopped her walking a few fox-lengths away from her and glanced at her apprentice seriously. "Go ahead and try to attack me, Frostpaw. Just remember to not use your claws but don't be afraid to push me or pin me down. Do whatever it takes to beat me."

The young apprentice diligently made mental note of all that her mentor explained to her. Her long fur was still puffed out and her tail that stood straight in the air began to lash back and forth as she eyed Silverfang for an opening. Frostpaw sprang forward until she had cleared the distance between the two she-cats, bowling into the bigger cat's feet in order to knock her off balance and force her to the ground. "Like this?" she huffed from the tangle of paws scuffling on the beech's floor.

Frostpaw used Run-and-Tackle, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 stamina.

OOC: No, it's not a stunning move so you did it perfectly. Use the battle system but with no damage cost so we don't have to go the medicine cat den for healing, okay? ;) And because Frostpaw will lose quickly.

IC:
Silverfang received the strike of her daughter with everything but she wasn't strong enough for knocking her down... yet. "Good frontal attack, but..." Her paw hit her face with strength before she reached her tail and push her down to the dusty ground while she took her opportunity to stand up and place her body over hers, with her right paw over her throat."You can't stop in the middle of a battle, Frostpaw, or it could be your end. You must continue until you're sure your opponent can't go on."

The mentor stepped back and she crouched down again, looking at her apprentice with defiant eyes. She held her tail up, showing her that she was ready for the next move.

The young she-cat bounced back up to her paws and shook herself, energized with the opportunity to try again. Frostpaw took aim and launched herself toward her mentor's back. She twisted around to land with her unsheathed forepaws on Silverfang's shoulders, holding position as gently as she could, and her unsheathed hindpaws on her back, raking imaginary claws along her spine.

Frostpaw used Leap-and-hold on Silverfang. Silverfang is pinned for 1 turn.

OOC: Is this what you meant by not using damage cost?

OOC: Exactly! I see that you already know how to use the battle system! After Silverfang get out of the pinned state, we will move on to hunting ;) Sorry for the delay.

IC: The young warrior felt that body over hers, pinning her hard to the ground. Silverfang smiled, even though Frostpaw couldn't see that. She was a natural fighter after all... just like her brothers. The warrior struggled under her body as she tried to turn around so she could escape. "Great job! Try to keep down a bit longer. Use all your weight over me, especially on my lower back and my shoulders so I can't move." She mewed delighted by the sudden improvement of her daughter.

Silverfang is no longer stunned.

OOC: That's alright. It's been a busy time.

IC: Frostpaw continued the attack a few heartbeats longer, her confidence increased by Silverfang's words of praise and encouragement, applying the suggested adjustments before finally starting to lose her balance when her mentor struggled underneath her. She lept down and landed on her paws. The young apprentice crouched defensively, keeping her weight on her hind paws so she was ready in case Silverfang demonstrated an attack on her. She took a moment to catch her breath before asking, "So that was ok? Should I try another attack?"

The warrior finally got rid of the apprentice and she jumped away just see how the young she-cat was already ready for a next attack. Silverfang grinned. Her reactions in battle were fast and sharp... soon, she would master battle and she would turn into an amazing fighter with the proper training.

"That was good, Frostpaw. As long as you follow my instructions and improve your technique you'll be a good warrior. For now, that'll we'll see about fighting. Now let's move to the second duty of a warrior: hunting." Silverfang smelled the air and soon her nose found what she was looking for. Leaving Frostpaw's side, she crouched when her odd eyes caught the silhouette of a rodent moving in the snow. With calm and quiet steps, the she-cat moved forward keeping her focus on the prey. She stopped a few paw-lengths away and prepared her hind legs for the leap. Soon, her claws were over the back of the mouse and the warrior could feel the bones cracking under the weight of her paws. Silverfang picked the rodent in her jaws and returned to Frostpaw. "In Leafbare is harder to find prey but not impossible. Always do the hunting crouch that I did and keep your tail in balance with your back: not touching the floor but not too raised up or the animals could see you before you can get them. Silence and patience is the key here. Now go."

OOC: I didn't use the hunting system because it would be embarrassing for Silver if she failed the catch while is teaching her daughter. You're free to use it if you want.

OOC: xD fair point.

Frostpaw dropped into a low crouch, her tail pointed straight out behind her as Silverfang had instructed. She scented the air with parted jaws, picking up the scent of a squirrel in the area. Not long after she scented it, she saw its bushy tail swirling as it dug into the ground with its tiny claws. The young apprentice crept forward slowly a couple of pawsteps at a time. She froze for several heartbeats at about a two fox-lengths away from her target before sprinting after it...too soon the squirrel realized the danger it was in and scampered away faster than Frostpaw could scramble after it. She chased it awhile before darting back to her mentor. "Sorry," she muttered in defeat.

OOC: Omg, I'm so sorry for the delay. I'll try to be more active on this. BTW, we should her hunting patrol or assessment soon ;) And, on the other side, did Frostpaw completed her battle requirement or she still needs that?

IC:

"Don't apologize. What you must do is be better, that's why we train. Now, analyzing what you did the main mistake was that you were too noisy and that the squirrel saw you approaching. You must be quieter and keep yourself hidden from your objective. Do it again until you catch something." The grey and white she-cat looked at her apprentice with serious eyes before laying down over a dead log, waiting for next attempt. In this place, she couldn't act like Frostpaw's mother. She had to be her mentor. The mentor that would turn her into a fiery and mighty Riverclan warrior.

OOC: That's alright. Busy times! She's gone on a hunting patrol, but hasn't had a battle just yet.

Frostpaw gave her mentor a curt nod, understanding that sulking about her failure would bring back no fresh-kill for the Clan. She kept still and parted her jaws, tasting the air again for prey. A water vole scurried among the reeds nearby. Frostpaw scented it first and then pinpointed its location by the sound it made. The young she-cat crept up on it carefully...and pounced, dealing the rodent a swift killing bite.
