It's About Time! (Closed Hunting Patrol)

Scorchpaw paced the entrance of the camp, his tail flicking impatiently. His older brother Crowfur promised him he would take him out for a hunting patrol at sunhigh, and he knew he had to get away from camp unless Violetshine found him first and unfairly dragged him away to lecture him on how to properly clean out Thrushstripe's bedding. He knew how important elders were to the Clan, but that didn't mean he had to be stuck doing it. There were plenty of apprentices in ShadowClan to do that instead of him, and he had to focus on becoming the strongest, most skilled warrior of ShadowClan he could possibly be so he could one day replace Littlebrook as deputy, and then Magpiestar as leader. He would surely make ShadowClan a force to be reckoned with.

But he would never be able to if Crowfur didn't hurry up already!

Crowfur quickly walked to where Scorchpaw was impatiently pacing. "Scorchpaw! I'm sorry i'm a bit late. I had to talk to somebody!" he quickly apologized. He looked behind him and then back to his younger brother. "Oh! Scorchpaw, is it alright if I bring my son, Sootpaw, along with us? Since he's also my apprentice, I wish to teach him how to hunt! Maybe you can give him some great hunting advice? You were always skilled since you were a kit!" he purred happily.

Scorchpaw huffed dismissively at Crowfur's apology. He supposed he could forgive him; after all, he did uphold to his promise. However, he stiffened at the thought of going out with another cat. He had wanted to spend some time alone with Crowfur! He sighed and flicked his tail in annoyance. Oh, well, he couldn't say no. Besides, it would be nice to be able to teach someone else his skills before he even became a mentor.

"Sure, I don't mind," he meowed. "So long as he isn't as annoying a furball as Minnowpaw."

Sootpaw followed his father towards the entrance. He had no interest in this, but Crowpaw had asked him to come and he couldn't say no to his beloved father. As detatched as he had become over the weeks, he still loved his family. "Hi Scorchpaw." he said unemotionally to the dark-furred tom.

Scorchpaw snorted at the impoliteness of his nephew. However, he still dipped his head in greeting, however didn't offer him any words. He turned back to Crowfur. "Can we get going now?"

Crowfur nodded. His eyes held a bit of tiredness but he was going to keep his promise to Scorchpaw. The dark furred to beckoned the apprentices to follow behind.

Once they reached a nice spot to begin, the warrior turned to address them. "Okay, we can begin here. Scorchpaw you may hunt as much as you like! Go crazy! Sootpaw, would you like to try hunting on your own or would you like me to teach you?"  The large tom patiently waited for  Sootpaw's response.

Sootpaw thought about it for a split second before replying. "It's fine, Crowfur. I can hunt on my own." with that, he began sniffing the ground for any traces of prey.

Scorchpaw narrowed his eyes at Sootpaw, looking rather cocky. "The cat who catches the most prey gets first pick off the fresh-kill pile!" After the kits and elder have been fed first of course.

He raced off into the woods, sniffing along the ground and searching for his first catch. He quickly caught a whiff of mouse, and a moment later he found the little rodent scouring through the snow searching for food. He crouched down and crept up to it, which proved to be a challenge considering the color of his pelt against the white snow. Once he deemed himself close enough, he pounced with claws outstretched. He landed squarely on its back and nipped the back of its neck before its terrified squeal could alert the other wildlife in the forest. Satisfied, he buried his prey in the snow and continued looking.

Sootpaw sniffed along the ground, freezing when he found a scent. He didn't have too much experience with hunting, but he guessed it was some kind of rodent by the scent patterns. He followed the scent for a while, only stopping when a small, greyish-brown creature appeared about two fox-lengths away from him. He crouched and crept towards the small rodent, then leapt on top of it. When he lifted his large paws, the mouse was gone. Supposedly, it had run away while he was leaping. "Mouse-dung." he muttered, before lowering his nose to the ground once again.

He nodded at his son with a smile. "Alright! Go have fun!" he purred. He turned and headed to a different direction. Crowfur began to track down a lizard. 'I wonder how the others are doing.' he thought to himself. The tom was close enough to the slick creature. He then readied his haunches before pouncing. He swiftly caught it and hid it in a safe location. 'Alright. At least two more before going to check on the boys.' he thought. The tom began to track another piece of prey.

Scorchpaw continued trotting silently through the pine forest, weaving through the trees. He stopped as yet another prey scent filled his nose. This time it was a rather rare creature that most likely crossed over the WindClan border: a white rabbit. He licked his lips and crouched down, beginning to stalk towards it. Of course, he never quite had the practice in hunting rabbits, so catching it was going to be tricky.

The rabbit's ears suddenly flew upward as it stared off into the distance, then raced off. Scorchpaw spat in annoyance and got ready to chase after it, only for the rustling in the trees to distract him. He looked up and was suddenly face to face with a large owl. He yowled loudly in surprise and immediately leaped away before it could score him with its massive talons. He hissed ferociously and leaped up to rake his claws down its belly.

Scorchpaw used Belly Rake, dealing 7 damage and costing 10 stamina.
