Flash back to her days as an apprentice, when she met Clearpaw of RiverClan “I’m not really sure if I would describe it as love, I was too young, too inexperienced…but it at least allowed me to realize that not all tales about rival clans are true, not all of them are evil…and believe me if I tell you that you would be surprised if I told you how alike some of us may be. “I never blamed you for dying, and if anything I think I blamed myself for not doing something to avoid your death instead of running. I understand now that I was too young, that if I had tried anything the only outcome would’ve been three bodies to mourn instead of two. I just wish I had the time to thank you for all you taught me, many would’ve felt like getting a disabled cat as mentor was a huge disadvantage, but in the short time we trained together you proved them all wrong by showing me techniques and tricks any regular warrior wouldn’t even know existed”

“Because you proved it to me and many other countless times. I know you had problems to see your own brave actions, and I hope I at least managed to put you under the right light before you left us. I had seen many cats with a regular or even fortunate past collapse under even smaller things than those you were forced to endure, cowering away and hiding behind their clanmates. The murder of your mother before your very eyes, forgiving the one that did it to the point of befriending them, face them later on when you knew they were doing something that wasn’t right, getting over your fear of blood to bring back a loved one so we could mourn…taking the path of the warrior even if many discouraged you from doing so, yourself included…and yet you always stood straight, and in times of need you would step forward instead of trying to find an excuse to not get involved.

However, I want you to understand that what you did is nowhere acceptable and I will never be able to forget it. “In all honesty, I’m not really an ambitious cat. I never dreamed to have a high position within the clan, even less being leader…that was the dream my brother had before he died, not mine’s. Now that I’m leader all I want is to care for my clan, make sure they’re happy and peace reigns over us as much as possible. I know it’s not exactly exciting on the eyes of an apprentice like you, but if you had gone through what I had to endure, see the bloodshed and pain war causes, mourn those you loved so much…then you would probably understand why I’m such a boring pacifist leader.

However, there is indeed something I want more than anything else and I still hope to be able to achieve someday…and that is to have a family of my own”

Things had gotten worse each passing day and there are times I don’t even want to wake up and leave my den…or even think about walking away to leave it all behind after all my failures as a leader. But you got to remember that there are clanmates who need us, family that loves us and friends that need our support now more than ever.

If you no longer find the motivation to do things for yourself, do them for those that are around you. That’s the only thought that gets me to leave my nest each morning, maybe it can work for you too”

“If I tell you I don’t make myself that very same question every night before I go to sleep, I would lying to you. At the time I was both confused and angry, judgement clouded. I know that is in no way an excuse for letting another cat die, and I won’t way try to defend myself for it

Having Specklefang, who was not only a clanmate but a friend of mine, confess to kill a mere apprentice in cold blood, even if driven by the grief and rage of the death of her own daughter, caught me completely off-guard. While she was known for being aggressive I never thought she would become a murderer.

Now I regret on agreeing to what Ivystar claimed to be justice, as no cat deserves death. Lives are precious and irreplaceable, even those of the cats that had committed serious mistakes in their past, and knowing that now my paws are stained with the blood of my friend will haunt me forever. While I know some may not agree with me here neither, now I wish I had turned down Ivystar’s request and exiled her instead, at least that way she would still have a chance at redemption somewhere else…a chance I agreed to help take away”

I know it may not be the answer you’re looking for, but hear me out. I had seen way too much unnecessary bloodshed happen, inside-clan struggles, warriors and apprentices ditching the clan when we need them the most, betrayal...

Unless we want to keep losing against the rest of the clans and maybe someday lose more than just herbs and prey, we need to work hard, be stronger, more cunning, and most important, loyal. We need strong dedicated warriors that are always ready to defend our clan against those who might want to cause us harm”
