Best Friends For Now (For Wavedream)

Swoopkit wished he was an apprentice already. He was four moons old, and nearly the size of most of the apprentices! It wasn't fair, but he could live with it. At least all his siblings were still kits. He didn't think he would be able to survive if they were apprentices and he was stuck a kit by himself. But, apprentice or not, he was bored and had to come up with something to do. His crooked nose twitched thoughtfully. Though some cats would be self-conscious about having a nose that pointed steeply downwards, he was proud of it. It made him different, and was his namesake (it looked like a swooping bird). His ear perked up and a smile crossed his maw as he came up with an idea. Maybe one of his siblings would want to play with him! Excitedly, he trotted over to the nursery, and spotted his favorite brother, Olivekit, sitting by himself. Bounding over to his brother, he nudged him playfully.
"Hey Olivekit, want to play a game? I'm so bored waiting for our apprentice ceremony!" he offered. He hoped with all his might that the answer would be yes. Loneliness was the worst possible thing, in his mind.

Olivekit drew in the dirt with an unsheathed claw, green eyes dull with being completely bored out of his mind as he looked at the random shapes he was making. He wished his siblings were around to play with- most of all his brother Swoopkit. The energetic kit hated sitting around like this. So when the familiar scent of Swoopkit did appear, Olivekit was on his little paws faster than a startled bird taking to flight.

"Swoopkit!" He cried joyfully, bounding over to his brother. "Please please please play with me, I'm so tired of sitting around like a boring old elder." His eyes sparkled. "Wanna play warrior?"

"Yeah! Sitting around is so boring!" Swoopkit replied energetically, literally jumping with joy. At Olivetti's suggestion, his green eyes lit up. Warrior was the best game he knew of. But they had already played hunt the 'mouse' (a beetle), so they should play something different this time when pretending to be warriors. His nose twitched excitedly when he realized what they could do. They should pretend to have battle! That would be really fun, and get them prepared for if they ever had to fight another cat.
"Of course we can play warrior! But none of the hunting stuff, we already did that moons ago. How about you're the ThunderClan warrior, and I'm the evil RiverClan warrior, and we fight?" the grey tabby suggested, padding back and for the excitedly. With a playful growl, he got into what he thought must be the perfect battle stance, but was more of a lopsided crouch.

Olivekit mroowed with laughter at his brother's poor attempt at a crouch. "You look like a lopsided deer!" He meowed with mirth, rolling on the ground as he was overcome with giggles at the hilarious display. Getting back on his paws, the kit dropped into his own attempt of a battle stance. However, if Swoopkit's crouch had been bad, Olivekit's was the worst one yet. In fact, he was so bad that he tipped over and landed into the dirt with an oof.

"Well, let's forget about crouches and just get on to the fighting part," Swoopkit decided. At first he had been a little embarrassed, but had joined in with the laughter when Olivekit had attempted his own crouch. His eyes lit up with merriment, the humiliation of before forgotten. Nothing was ever nearly quite as bad if your friend did the same thing. After recovering from his fit of amused purrs, he mock growled and leapt for his brother, paws outstretched. He barreled into him and pretended to scratch his face, but in reality was just lightly hitting him with his paws.

Olivekit's fur heated up with embarrassment. "Yeah okay," he agreed. The little kit got back onto his paws, half of his dark grey pelt covered in a thick layer of dust from the ground. His face scrunched at his brother's complete and utter mirth. "Stop laughing at me," he whined just as his brother's paw suddenly darted into his face, pushing him back and startling him. "Hey that's not fair I wasn't ready!" Olivekit complained, scrambling to fight back by swiping a paw at Swoopkit in return.

"Sorry!" Swoopkit squealed in reply, sneezing as he was batted right in the face. "I just wanted to start playing!" With a small mewl of fake aggression, he bopped Olivekit right on top of the head. However, that caused him to be unbalanced and fall over. Now he tried to hit his brother with his hind legs, but missed due to his awkward position. Realizing that his tactic wasn't working, he got to his paws and made the mistake of attempting another crouch, while saying, "Evil RiverClanners like me never lose!"
