A Kit's Impatience

Scorchkit glared angrily at her. "You can! I didn't come all the way out here just to turn back and go home!" He left Minnowkit's side and trudged deeper into the marshes, hoping his dark gray pelt would help him blend in with the dark mud.

Curlypaw was treading along with Willowheart through ShadowClan territory, wondering why in StarClan's name she had to go on a patrol with this cat. Though any normal cat would have heard the two tramping along clumsily through the marsh, she didn't hear them until they started squealing to each other and diving for cover. She sighed and shook her head. Part of her wanted to just silently watch them, and then protect them if they were in any sort of danger, but someone else would notice them before she had a chance to look brave. As it was, the obviously loud words of her companion let her know that at least one other cat had heard them. Scenting the air, she detected their scent. One she recognized as Scorchkit, who was technically her family, and she didn't remember the other one. Rolling her eyes, she looked to Willowheart.
"You don't have to be that loud, I'm not completely deaf," the apprentice started, trying to make the kits think that she had only been speaking loud because she was afraid Curlypaw wouldn't be able to hear her. "And there are small creatures around that definitely can hear you just fine."

Minnowkit looked after Scorchkit and sighed quietly before she jumped up on a log and waited for the patrol.

Scorchkit grumbled to himself as he continued through the thick mud. This was exactly the reason why he wanted to go exploring alone. He just knew Minnowkit would try to stop him. But he wasn't going to be sent back so soon to camp, not when he was so close to becoming an apprentice already.

A jolt of alarm shot through him when he stepped down and found his entire leg sinking into the mud. He tried to pull himself out, but it wouldn't budge. He felt himself beginning to sink into the mud!

Scorchkit threw back his head and let out a high-pitched caterwaul of panic, hoping the upcoming patrol would hear him and rescue him from drowning.

Minnowkit heard it and started running towards the patrol coming closer.
