Rosepaw's patrol [Closed]

There was an excitement in Smokestripe as he lingered near the entrance of the apprentice den. His eyes gleamed with the knowledge that he had his own kit as his apprentice but also...It brought back memories. He sighed sadly at the memories of going out on patrols with Yewpaw...She and her brother had such promise and were both taken far before their time. He quickly gave a shake of his head to chase away thought sad thoughts, knowing it was more important to focus on the present and Rosepaw's training. While he would always miss Pinepaw and Yewpaw, being locked in grief over them was going to get him nowhere. Instead, it was better if he focused on helping Rosepaw become the best warrior she could. Speaking of, he turned to look at the apprentice den as he waited for her, more then happy to let her take her time waking up as he remembered struggling waking up early himself once he became an apprentice instead of being able to sleep for however long you wanted as a kit.

rosepaw woke up really sleepy but she didn't care. today was the day she was going to be trained by her father. she walked out of the den and saw him waiting. "hi dady oops I mean smokestripes what are we doing today?" the young apprentice asked/ she looked up at the good day and saw there was no sent of rain yet.

Smokestripe's ears perked up at Rosepaw came padding over, a warm expression flashing on his face. "Hey there Rosepaw," he purred as he took a step forward to gently touch his nose to her forehead, a warm rumble to his voice. Staring at Rosepaw, he couldn't help but be reminded of Yewpaw and how she wouldn't stop referring to him as 'Father' until he convinced her to relax and stop being so formal. "Today I'll be teaching you the basic of hunting," he explained as he he turned to lead her out of the camp. "It isn't the most glamorous thing - most apprentices look more forward to fighting or checking the borders for enemy cats but its one of the most important duties that we hold."

"your wrong I love hunting more than fighting." she said laughing and jumping up and down. "Lets go." she said excitedly

There was a smile that flashed on Smokestripe's face as he looked at Rosepaw, warmth blossoming in his chest. "That's good to hear," he said softly, relief in his voice. It wasn't that he frowned on fighting, he just...It was never an idea he entertained happily. Sure, he would fight when needed but if he could avoid it, he was happy. No need for senseless bloodshed so it was wonderful to hear that Rosepaw preferred the art of hunting then fighting unlike so many ShadowClan apprentices. "Today we will just be going over the basics," he explained as he lead her further into the marsh. "Just getting the skill of stalking and pouncing down. We can go over other techniques and learning how to track down prey at a later point."

"ok soo do I have to be in a certain pose the whole time because I'm bad at standing still you learned that when I was a kit." she asked while laughing. She fallowed her dad-mentor more into the marsh and couldn't wait to start. While she was fallowing she started to jump with every step her excitement leaving her through her feet.

There was a small chuckle from the warrior as he gave a slight shake of his head. He halted as he reached the spot, raising an eyebrow when he turned to see Rosepaw bouncing up and down. Hm...Stealth really wasn't her area of expertise was it? "I understand you are excited but you may want to be mindful not to be hopping in case you scare away the prey with the sound and sudden movements," he said in a soft but warm tone, a gentle scolding with love behind it. He had faith that Rosepaw was going to become a great warrior once their training was done and she would do ShadowClan proud. He certainly didn't want to crush her spirits thought - it felt so rare to have a chipper cat in ShadowClan as all the other Clans saw them as mean-spirited creatures of the night with cold hearts.

He paused as he glanced around the area of the marsh they were in before he gave a satisfied nod of his head. This would do as their hunting spot as he turned his attention back to his daughter as he cleared his throat. "As for your question...There is a pose that you will be expected to hold but you won't need to stand still the entire time. The pose is more of a...Crouch, to help hide your body from view as you stalk near the prey," he explained as he dropped into the crouch. He slowly started to stalk forward toward her as an example of how to move, keeping his pawsteps light as he continued to speak. "If you are are having trouble standing still when judging your jump however, I'm sure you can carefully shift your weight back and forth between your paws. Shaking your haunches to carefully correct your footing is also a good way to move as well when you are about to make your jump."

Rosepaw watched her dad and couldn't believe that he was soo good."ok let me try." she said then went into the crouch. She knew her feet where off even though she didn't know how so she moved them to the right position and started to stalk a leaf. When she got to the standing still part she did what he said and moved her paws into position then leaped. She landed exactly on the leaf and looked up at her dad smiling. "i caught my first prey yay." she said laughing and brining the leaf to him.
