What will we do today?

Swiftstep got out of the Warrior's den and took a breath. He loved the scent of the early morning. He looked around at the peaceful camp. His eyes lit up as he got an idea. The tom walked to the camp entrance, ready to lead an early hunting patrol. It was fresh out and prey were getting ready to hide for the cold weather that was to come. He wanted to gather prey before they start to hide. The new warrior sat down and began to wait for somebody to come and join him.

Mottleheart sat on the other side of the camp, cleaning his pelt in the shadow of the Tallrock to escape the chilly Leafbare winds. His eyes flickered up at movement, watching as Swiftstep pulled himself from the warrior's den and headed for the entrance of the camp. There was a small moment of hesitation as the warrior decided what exactly he wanted to do before he got to his paws. There wasn't any good reason to linger around the camp and getting some proper fresh-air sounded like a good idea. So, Mottleheart strolled across the camp clearing toward the younger warrior as he dipped his head to him. "Swiftstep," he greeted in a natural tone befitting the cold and distance personality he had taken up lately. "Going out on a patrol? May I join you?"

Swiftstep gave the older warrior a smile as a greeting. "Yes you may join me Mottleheart. We will wait for a couple others and we'll be on our way." He told him. He sat there admiring the beauty of the early morning sky. Although he felt chilly, Swiftstep was a warrior, the tom wasn't going to let that show.

Newtslip saw Swiftstep and Mottleheart waiting near the exit of the camp. She quickly padded closer and nodded to Mottleheart; then she smiled to Swiftstep with warm smile. "Patrol? May I come too. I have nothing else to do."

Quailfeather padded up to the group, soft pelt bristling against the chilly air. Leaf-fall was on its way for sure, and prey began to be scarce. They needed as many good hunters on patrols as possible. She fancied herself to be moderately excellent at hunting, and she didn't want her Clanmates to go hungry. The gray speckled she-cat offered Mottleheart, Swiftstep and the others a grin. "I won't let you have all the fun. May I come as well?"

Swiftstep purred as Newtslip came their way. "Of course you may join Newtslip." He looked past the she-cat to see Quailfeather walking to them as well. He gave a small smile. "Yes you can come as well." The tom got up and looked at the assembled cats. "Are you all ready to go?" he asked the group.

Mottleheart dipped his head in greeting as Newtslip and Quailfeather walked up, relieved a bit by the extra company. It was always awkward being around cats he had never really spoken to before and...Well, he wasn't very much for short conversations anymore. So having Quailfeather there was a welcomed thing as he got to his paws, turning and giving Swiftstep a nod. "I'm ready to go."

Quailfeather grinned and nodded. "I was born ready. Let's chase some rabbits!" There was nothing like a good hunting patrol to get her regular spirit back. It was nice to feel useful, and catching prey for the queens and elders was useful indeed.

Newtslip nodded joining others with prickle of joy in her eyes. It was a fine morning with nothing to worry about. "Let's go." She looked for Swiftstep to lead, after all he organized this patrol.

Swiftstep nodded. He led the patrol out of the camp and into the heart of the territory. He stopped and turned to the others. "Alright. Here's where we can split up and go hunt. If anybody doesn't want to split up, then feel free to join me. If you encounter an enemy, please call for help and don't try to take it on by yourself. Let's all try to get as much prey as we can carry!" With the last statement, Swiftstep walked off in a random direction.

Once far enough, the agile tom began to scent the air for any prey nearby. Soon enough, the warrior spotted a rabbit looking away. He made sure that the breeze was facing him so that the swift creature didn't smell him. He stalked it from behind until he came to a stopping point. He made sure it hadn't heard or scented him and after a few seconds, he pounced. The tom successfully caught the rabbit. He hid it and went to look for more.

Mottleheart followed after Swiftstep without a word as they entered the moor, already opening his mouth to taste for air as they went. When the young warrior came to a stop, Mottleheart paused as well as his ears flickered to listen to him. He dipped his head as the group slowly started to split up, deciding to go his own way for hunting. With a swift turn, he headed in his own direction although he was careful not to wander so far so that they were all near one another in case trouble reared its head.

Coming to a stop on the cusp of a hill, Mottleheart closed his eyes as a small wind ruffled his short fur as he tasted the air. His ears twitched as he recognized the soft sound of crunching grass as he tasted the familiar scent of a hare. He scanned the landscape around him, quickly pinpointing the soft brown hare as it hopped across the moor at a slow pace. The warrior's eyes glimmered as he carefully stalked after it until he felt he was close enough and broke into a dash to catch it before it caught wind of him.

There was a flicker of red in the corner of his eyes that caused him to freeze as the hare suddenly darted away, disappearing into a nearby hole. A new scent washed over the tom as he frowned sharply, trying to spot what he had seen only for his eyes to widen. "Fox!" he yowled as the strange not cat but not dog creature came barreling at him. With a swift movement he darted to the side, feeling hot breath on his tail as the fox's maw barely missed the limb. He reared up on his back paws, slashing at fox's muzzle in a mad fury as it turned to face him. The creature yipped in surprise before it snapped forward with speed that took the warrior by surprise.

Pain lanced though Mottleheart's front leg as the sharp teeth of the creature came biting down on the limb but the tom didn't have time to screech in pain before the breath in his lungs were stolen as the fox whipped its head to the side. Mottleheart was pulled after it, all paws leaving the ground as he was thrown to the ground a few tail-lengths away. The tom moaned softly as he shook his head, trying to push himself onto his paws but the pain in his leg prevented him as he collapsed back to the ground as the fox slowly advanced.

Mottleheart uses Rear-up to Slash on wild fox, dealing 14 damage and costing 15 stamina followed by Swift Strike for an added 6 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Wild Fox uses Iron Bite on Mottleheart, dealing 30 damage and costing 20 stamina.

Swiftstep's heart stopped. A fox?! The young tom turned around in a heart beat and ran as fast as his legs could take him. He listened to Mottleheart's quarrel with the fox as he got closer. 'Starclan give me strength.' the tom silently prayed to his ancestors. He had to live up to his "own title" as Windclan's fastest. He got into view of the battle. The fox hadn't seen him quite yet. He ran as swiftly as an Owl flew silently. He made an impressive leap onto the large creature's back, almost making it crumple to the ground due to the impact. He dug his claws and bit it with fury and bravery. He stunned it and pinned it to the ground. The tom refused to let go.
