An Acorn in an Oak Tree

Oakfall smiled at his friend. "No Acornkit," he meowed teasingly, "he stalks like a lopsided badger! This is how you crouch." Walking on his feet, he really made it look as if he were a lopsided badger. Laughing, he then said, "I'm just kidding, this is the real thing." Doing his best crouch, he then looked over at his friend. Frowning, he realized that he had a better crouch, more balanced, stealthier, quieter. Back when he was an apprentice he would have challenged him, battled him if he needed to prove he was the best. But now he simply shook his head. "You were always the better hunter," he meowed, "but don't forget I still have superior battle skills!" He mimed a swipe in the air.

Acornkit watched as the two warriors showed their hunting crouches. She laughed when Oakfall pretended to be a lopsided badger, at least she wasn't that bad. She tried to mimic their crouches and she did get a little bit sturdier, but she still needed more practice. "I'll have to keep practicing to be as good as either of you" she mewed a little embarrassed. She didn't know what she would be better at yet, hunting or fighting, but she knew she would give it her all every time. Acornkit tried to replay both their crouches over and over in her head to memorize their movements, she even tried to memorize Oakfalls swipe. She thought if she could picture it then she should be able to achieve it.

Talonstrike nodded at Acornkit's comment, and was further impressed when he saw her actually go through with it, her eyes closed as she was picturing their crouches in her head. She's got determination, he thought. He then turned to Oakfall. "Superior battle skills?" he scoffed," as if." He laughed. Acornkit is gonna have a blast turning into a warrior, he thought, I wonder who her mentor will be.

Oakfall smiled at the his friend and the kit, and in that moment, the world felt...perfect.
