Ruddy the Rouge

It was dawn when the kitten padded out from his human's yard for the last time. He slunk past the fence, hi. Fins large paws leading his disproportionately small body away from his home.
He walked until his pads bled. Finally he stopped under a flickering streetlight, licking the blood off his paws and looking around. His dark brown eyes were wide with fear- maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
His red fur fluffed up, showing his obvious discomfort of being alone. With a sigh he settled down, waiting for something to happen.

A bright white cat weaved his way through the shadows, his bright red plume of a tail trailing behind him. His pair of eyes, one green, one blue, widened as he saw the kit, sitting as if waiting for something.
With a small mew he padded up to it, dipping his head. "Hello there, young one." He purred, his voice gravelly for lack of use.

Ruddy looked up, jumping as the ginger and white cat approached him. "Who are y-y-you?" He squeaked.

"There's no need to be scared, little one," The tom mewed, wrapping his bright orange tail around his paws. "If I may ask,
what's your name?"

"R-R-Ruddy," The small kit stammered quietly. "Are y-y-you a wild cat?"

The tom's strange eyes widened slightly, his fur raising at the mention of wild cats- he had traveled enough to know that kittypets referred to Clan cats as 'wild'.
But in a flash his fur was sleek and his pose was confident. "You mean the clan cats?
I had a brief spell with em'. Didn't last too long though."
His white fur ruffled as a cold wind blew through, a dark, tall column of clouds promising rain. "Let's get under some shelter." He mewed, gesturing to the clouds. "I know of a barn that some rouge cats like to hang out in. I've never been there, but I'm sure it's warm and dry. Those lazy Barn cats are nothing but lazy pushovers."
He got to his feet, looking down at the kit. "C'mon, Ruddy. It's not too far from here."
And with that the white tom padded out of the ring of light under the streetlamp. Only this time, he had a companion.

Ruddy stayed close to his new companion, looking up at him in admiration. He couldn't help it- this wasn't what he'd envisioned the wild cats acting like- he thought they'd be savage and messy. But this cat? He was sleek and strong and... cool.
