Redkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Each and every time the deputy leapt onto the Jaggedrock he felt his anxiety leave piece by piece. Even though a doubt still existed in his heart over his abilities, the words slipped out of his mouth as if it had become a habit. "Let all cats old enough to capture their own prey gather underneath Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!"

He had heard about these before. Redkit padded outside and stared up at the rock on which Magpiewing stood. He had seen the deputy around and now he was being told to come outside for this meeting. He wondered what it could be about.

The black deputy glanced down at the kit as he joined the gathering clan. Redkit was always a sensitive subject for himself. While he sported Mudfoot's own red coat, the kit resembled his mother in ways he would never know. Magpiewing's loyalty to ShadowClan, Leopardstar, and the Code wanted to reject the kit in a way. He was too much a reminder of his traitorous mother and her accomplice. Yet his loyalty to his family and heart told him to accept the kit as his grandchild, blood or not. A kit never deserved to be punished for their parent's actions.

Redkit was a ShadowClan cat through and through. He was accepted into the clan as if nothing had happened. He would fit in well, despite the stigma around him and his parentage. Part of the tom wondered what his not-so-lucky brother was going through in ThunderClan. Would Redkit grow up knowing about his half-brother?

Shaking the thoughts away, he returned to the matter at hand. "Redkit, please step forward."

Looking up at the deputy, the kit looked around for a second as if he were talking to someone else. When he met the eyes of those around him staring back at him, he turned back to the large rock and stepped forward. He caught word of someone mentioning this to be an apprentice ceremony. Was he moving up? Suddenly, there was a new excitement in the kit as he waited for further instruction.

Magpiewing gave a short smile to the kit as he watched the excitement in his eyes grow until it seemed like it would burst. With a deep breath, he spoke up. "You have reached the age of six moons, and are now ready to be apprenticed. From this day forth, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Redpaw." The tom glanced around, wondering just who would mentor this new apprentice. A young tom popped into his mind. Although he often had a temper around Foxheart, and recently became somewhat moody, he was good at heart. "Your mentor shall be Mousefang. I trust he will teach you all he knows."

With that, the deputy jumped town and joined the chanting that followed shortly.

Honeydrop smiled softly as her half-brother, Redpaw, gained his apprentice name. She trusted that he would do well and make ShadowClan proud, despite his heritage. It was good to see that the Clan still went on normally, after all the strange things that had been happening lately. "Redpaw! R-Redpaw!" she cheered happily, ignoring the pangs in her belly.
