The Whispering Jasmine [Closed training]

Sootwhisper padded silently towards one of the many streams that soon joined in the river that made the cats of the clan who they were. Now, his lack of interest of being around the nursery, or most cats in general, didn’t allow him to know how skilled the new apprentice was at fishing or swimming after fish, information he needed to be able to set up a proper training method and schedule for Jasminepaw.

Most mentors probably would try to make a conversation with their apprentices as they left camp, form bonds with them in some way, but Sootwhisper wasn’t like that. He simply couldn’t understand nor perform the process of forming any kind of emotional bonds like most cats did, and the only two cats that had managed to get close to him had to understand this first. He wasn’t expecting to become his apprentice’s friend, he was his mentor and what he expected was to train her to be able to survive and serve her clan correctly.

“You mother ever took you to fish near camp or swim in the Broken Pools?” His unusually deep voice which barely went above a whisper, the reason behind his warrior name, was as cold as the melting snow under their paws.

Jasminepaw followed as Sootwhisper led her towards the river her body tingled with anxiety as they drew nearer and nearer.. was this a good time to confess her fear of swimming? She first decided against it and silently followed her mentor, as she observed Sootwhisper she could tell that he wasn't much of a talker and Jasminepaw didn't mind she prefered to train other than talking. As they approached the river her eye's had fear with in them she had no idea how to tell Sootwhisper that she was afraid of the river!

She barely heard his question but chose to ignore him, she sat down a few feet away from the river bank.. there was no way... no way she was going to touch that water!

“Jasminepaw, when I make a question I expect an answer” He meowed, his voice as emotionless as always but slightly louder, his different colored eyes locked on the apprentice. He looked at the water running right before them before sitting right at its side, the water soaking the tip of his tail though he paid no mind to it “Come here” As he spoke, he made a quick sign with his ear that meant the exact same thing he had just expressed through cold words. He was unaware of Jasminepaw’s fear of water, but even if he did he wouldn’t have allowed her to stay sitting so far from it during the whole lesson. As a RiverClan cat she would need to learn how to swim and fish whether she liked it or not, and he was going to make sure she had the great skill in the water that the whole clan was known for.
