A Yarrow root amongst the Thunder (OPEN)

A white kit with black paws and yellow eyes padded out of the nursery. Yarrowkit squinted against the bright morning sun. There were clouds in the sky and it looked like it might rain later, but Yarrowkit didn't care she loved the rain. Pretty soon somebody came uo to her as she was thinking about the rain.

Smudgekit had been padding along, his head down and gaze towards the floor. He could see just enough to know he was headed to the nursery. As a pair of small black paws came in his field of view, he gave an abrupt stop. As he skidded to a halt, almost hitting the kit in front of him, Smudgekit's gaze finally traveled up to see which cat was now in front of him. Smudgekit saw that this was one of his denmates. He tried his best to remember the name of this kit, but sadly he could not. Instead he just sat in front of Yarrowkit awkwardly, his gaze back down to the camp floor.

Yarrowkit looked at the kit who almost numbed into her and smiled. "Hi what's your name? I'm Yarrowkit!!" She meowed.

"I..i..s..Smudgekit", Smudgekit replied shakily. He kept his gaze on the ground as he spoke, nervous about meeting somone new. Smudgekit had the courage to speak again, without stuttering this time, "Why is your name Yarrowkit? you dont look like an herb to me...". He felt ashamed for asking such a rude question and cowered into himself.

Yarrowkit shrugged. "I dunno. My mom just named me that."

Smudgekit finally tore his gaze from the ground, looking up at Yarrowkit. This isnt so bad! meeting new people, he thought. He was still quite anxious, but he was getting more comfortable speaking to the kit in front of him. He didn't know what to say to Yarrowkit next so he just awkwardly looked around the camp, watching as some warriors headed out into the forest and others returned, carrying fresh kill or being followed by their apprentice.

Yarrowkit saw a Mossball and tossed it to Smudgekit and asked him to play Mossball.

Smudgekit had never played mossball before but he reached out a tentative paw, his claw unsheathed, as the mossball rolled towards him. Catching it in his paw, be swatted it back to Yarrowkit, the mossball not going very far but far enough to reach yarrowkit.

Yarrowki batted it back at Smudgekit.

The mossball came back towards Smudgekit and he dived, trying to pounce onto it. He missed my a mousetail and ended up falling flat on his belly, his chin hitting the dusty ground. The mossball rolled several tails away from him.

Yarrowkit ran over and asked if he was ok.

Smudgekit got to his paws shakily, his chin scraped from where he had fallen. "yeah, i'm alright.", He mewed, his voice coming out as a whisper.

Yarrowkit nodded but the concerned look in her eyes never vanished.

Smudgekit straitened up, shaking the dust off of his pelt. " Really, i'm good.", He mewed as he began to groom his pelt. His tongue rasped over his fur, his face twisting with disgust at the taste of dirt.

"Smudgekit! Yarrowkit!" Blossomfrost purred. "That moss is for the elders!" Blossomfrost had been rolling a bundle of moss toward the elders' den. She was delightedly surprised to see that Smudgekit was getting acquainted with another kit. Yarrowkit was an unterstanding little she-cat, and Blossomfrost was sure their friendship would hold.
