One Mottled Vixen [open; medicine cat/medicine cat apprentice needed!]

She lay there tiredly. She had only recently known, giving up her warrior title temporarily for the name of a queen. She looked down at her bloated belly, giving a groan. It was such a pain to lug around! If only Mottledwing had known earlier, she would've alerted her family. But now, Blacktwig scarcely knew. She was resting her head on her paws when the contractions came. Her hind legs twitched, and her hazel eyes blazed wildly. "Eugh..." she moaned. A sudden jolt down her flank caused her to yowl. "Dreamleaf? Sparkpaw? Anyone!?" Mottledwing caterwauled. She knew that the kit was coming. She searched around the nursery for a stick of any kind. Panting, she found one of suitable size. Pulling herself forwards, she assured herself that it would be alright.

Unfortunately for her, it was the contrary.

She grabbed the stick in her jaws, just as she had seen other queens do when experiencing labor pains. She had seen Grasswhisker do it, so it must work... right? She snapped down on it as hard as she could, and markings formed in the bark. She screamed once more hazily for the medicine cat, and pushed as hard as she possibly could.

Sparkpaw grabbed some herbs and sprinted over at the pained calls for her name. It had only been a few days since Grasswhisker's successful kitting, and she was feeling a little more confident about helping Mottledwing. "It's alright, I'm here, I'm here..." she tried to reassure the queen, clearly in agony. "Bite down on the stick, and when it gets really bad, chew some of these," she mewed, pushing over some poppy seeds. "And push. Push as hard as you can. Keep thinking about your kits, and keep going."

Mottledwing panted heavily, dragging herself over feebly with white paws. She nodded towards Sparkpaw. "Thank you... Sparkpaw..." she said, between contractions. She consumed the poppy seeds swiftly, gulping them down, whilst trying to restrict her pain. She then gave a first push, yowling. She groaned, until another pain rippled down her flank. She pushed again.

After a while, she heaved once more, pushing. She then felt a little bundle slide out from underneath her tail, an agonizing pain accompanying it. She gasped, then took a deep breath. She looked at the tiny, russet-red kit that was lying there. She nipped its sac, and allowed it to breathe. Mottledwing blinked her hazel eyes lovingly at it.

"Vixenkit..." she decided tiredly. "Vixenkit... is her name." Mottledwing stretched out, after the painful ordeal.

Vixenkit wriggled around, mewing quietly, as it searched her mother's warmth.
