Pansies Around The Cherry Tree (closed)

Cherrymist purred as they reached their landmark. Halfstone was probanly her favourite place to hunt, and since the cleave in the rock provided warmth, she did not doubt about finding some rabbit burrows or even voles. She scented the air, building a map inside her mind as she led her younger sister, her apprentice, to the rock. She sat down, signaling her to do the same. First she needed some instructing.

"Pansypaw, this is Halfstone. As you can see, it has a huge place where is it split open. Aroundnhere gather many bunnies, voles, rodents, of the sort. So today I will teach you about hunting." she announced, before she rose up, shaking her fur of snowflakes.

Pansypaw followed her mentor, who blended into the white leaf-bare landscape perfectly, until they came to the base of a large split rock.  She listened intently to Cherrymist's explanation, nodding every so often.  The gray-and-white she-cat was very excited to learn, so when hunting practice was mentioned she jumped up, tail high.  "Okay, what do I do first?" She meowed rather loudly.

Cherrymist nodded warmly as she noticed the scent of excitement hanging to the she-cat. "Alright, dear, first thing you must learn in order to be a successfull warrior is the hunter's crouch. Rather simple, but hard to master. I am sure other apprentices or queens showed you this move to entertain you." she purred, crouching on the ground carefully. "You must be careful to avoid making a sound, and never let your belly or tail touch the ground."

Nodding rapidly, Pansypaw crouched down into her best hunter's crouch, which was far from perfect.  She was lopsided, and one of her hind paws stuck out too far.  Out of the corner of her eye, she examined her mentor's crouch intently, and managed to move her paw into the right position, but she was still leaning too far on one side.

Cherrymist stood in ner crouch for a few minutes, being careful to let her apprenrice copy everything that she could from her. Then she stood up. "Try and catch something now. If you need help with your position, ask Tinylegs when we get back and you get the chance."

Pansypaw rose to her paws and nodded at Cherrymist. My first hunt! Barely containing her excitement, she scented the air for any tantalizing prey trails. Catching the scent of a mouse, she went on high alert. Crouching down, being careful to replicate her mentor's position, she began to slowly creep forward. She could see it now; it was just outside the crack in the rock. Her eyes narrowed, the young she-cat braced herself to leap, but when she did she didn't land where she wanted. Her side crashed into the rocks as she turned to try and pin the mouse but it was already gone. Growling in frustration, she hissed "Fox dung!" under her breath.

OOC: I tried using the hunting system but I couldn't figure it out. How are you supposed to know what prey/result you put in your post?

'Hunting Dice' : 9

(When you press reply, you have an attachement where you are shown the prey, and certain numbers corespond to the hunting dice, meaning if you roll certain numbers you get certain type of prey, or some may give you battle encounters. That is one of the dices you are supposed to roll when you hunt. The second dice would be still a hunting dice. If you look up the Hunting System, you will see that each rank has a set of numbers in the dice that mean success, and a set that mean failure, and as your cat becomes an experienced warrior, the numbers that show failure will be reduced to as many as 2-3.

So you need to roll 2 hunting dices, the first helps you know what type of prey your cat is pouncing on, and the second shows youuf you caught it.)

Cherrymist smiled softly, remembering her first days as an apprentice, and the struggle of learning everything. It had been so hard to be blind too, but now she was proud of how she managed to get over it. With a purr, she flicked her tail over her younger sister's back, smiling encouragingly. "You can do it if you concentrate. Try again, Pansypaw." she said, giving the younger cat space to stalk on another piece of prey.

After licking down the ruffled fur on her side, she nodded at her mentor and began to scent the air once again. Catching the scent trail of a rabbit, she began to carefully creep forward. Seeing the fluffy creature, she bared her teeth in a soundless snarl, and leaped. She managed to pounce on the animal, but it was a bit too big for Pansypaw to kill. She went for it's throat, but it only shook her off and hopped away into the bushes.

Growling in frustration and impatience, she hissed "Cherrymist, what am I doing wrong?" The proud she-cat hated to fail, or look stupid, and right now in her mind she was doing both.

Cherrymist shook her head with a sweet smile, ruffling her sister's fur on her head. "If you try again, I'm sure you will manage, dear." she purred, trying her best tom look bright for the apprentice. All she needed was confidence, and how could she get that if her mentor did not pay her any attention? The blind she-cat nodded her head, signaling Pansypaw to try again.

Pansypaw purred as her older sister ruffled her fur, and felt a renewed confidence from her words.  Nodding in agreement, she began to scent the air once again, picking up the trail of a hedgehog. But like before, it got away. She didn't get frustrated though; she kept going until finally, she caught a mole that had popped up out of it's hole. She had been behind him and it didn't see her until the last second. Giving the small creature a swift nip to the neck, she padded proudly over to Cherrymist,head held high. Setting her catch down at her paws, the young she-cat grinned from ear to ear.
