A Chilly Patrol [closed]

Sitting near the camp entrance, Smokepelt looked around, wondering if anyone was crazy enough to join him for a patrol this early. Usually waking up with the sun, the tom was used to the chilly morning air, but most others enjoyed sleeping in their warm and comfortable nests. Well, the clan was also in need of prey so he might as well take advantage of the early silence and catch some prey.

He was hesitant to wake up in the morning but since he was a apprentice he had to do it. The tom had yawned, stretched and groomed his fur before heading out of the apprentice den. Crowpaw was assigned to a early morning patrol and he could tell it wouldn't be very thrilling since it was supper chilly. His ear twitched as his gaze turned to Smokepelt Morning."

Mottlepaw pulled himself from the apprentice den after Crowpaw with a small yawn, blinking in the cold morning breeze as he ruffled his short pelt. Very few were awake at this time - the sun just rising over the horizon. He wasn't assigned to go on a patrol but spotted Crowpaw greet the Smokepelt as the deputy sat next to the entrance of the camp. The brown and white apprentice frowned softly, flickering an ear before he headed over to the two of them. "Are you two going on a patrol?" he asked as he glanced between the two. "May I join?"

She'd have to go on a patrol sometime. Spiderfur was still too afraid to be on her own out in the territory, the eagles and hawks that were still around wouldn't have a hard time picking her out against the snowy background, and she was just light enough to be easily carried off.

"I-I think I'll be-be joining too." She of course still had her anxious stutter, something that she'd never be able to get rid of. Hopefully this time she could blame it on the chill. A shiver rolled its was down her body, ending with a sharp flick of her tail.

Looking up from his paws, Smokepelt was somewhat surprised when three cats asked to join. Well, looks like the clan might get some decent prey after all. Before anyone else was able to join, Smokepelt stood up and nodded his head to the apprentices and Spiderfur. "Yes, you all can come. Let's get going," the deputy meowed softly. Turning and heading for the entrance, he tried moving around his jaw but the pain that shot through his mouth was too much. I just hope I'll be able to catch prey, he thought to himself silently, trotting out of the camp entrance.

Crowpaw glanced around the others who also joined the patrol, excitement pulsing through his veins he loved hunting so much. He was glad that he could finally provide for the clan, and not be a useless kit like he was before. The apprentice had quickly followed after Smokepelt excited venturing out of the camp again the life of an apprentice was so fun!

Relief flooded though Mottlepaw when the deputy affirmed that he, among the others, could join the patrol. He had been itching to get out of the camp. He quickly followed after Smokepelt and Crowpaw, taking in a happy breath of fresh air as they left the camp.

Spiderfur tagged along behind them, mouth already open to scent for prey. Right at the moment all she could taste was grass and an old rabbit trail, but movement in the grass caught her attention. She stopped, ears alert, seeing if it would move again. It did. Without saying a word, she disappeared into the dry heather, pausing every few heartbeats to look and listen. Once she got close enough. she saw that the movement was from a flock of birds, sparrows, in fact. The warrior chose her target carefully, and for a moment, she wasn't anxious at all.

Once she felt the moment was right, she pounced, paws outstretched. The she-cat was able to trap one underneath her, but another was able to escape, just with fewer feathers. The rest of the flock fled with a few warning squawks. 'Maybe some Skyclan cat will have a touger time because I scared those birds so badly.'

"I suggest we patrol the gorge border first," the deputy meowed as the patrol started through the moor. "Then we can get some hunting in," he added, looking to the apprentices and then to Spiderfur. Although the fight was over, Smokepelt still didn't trust RiverClan and wanted to make sure they weren't up to anything, seeing that they thought they owned everything and everyone...
