The Lion that climbed the Maple tree

Lionpaw nodded as she thought about another move to tell Maplepaw about before she blinked, recalling her fight with that SkyClan apprentice on the border. "When you jump into battle, its a good idea to charge your opponent and try to take them by surprise. Throwing yourself at them with full force, you can deal a good amount of damage mostly when they aren't focused on you. Even if they are focused on you, you can still deal a good amount before they can react," she said, recalling the opening move painfully.

Listening carefully to what lionpaw told her, she located a wilted flower on the other side of the den. She ran up to it and plucked it from its roots, bring it back over to lionpaw when she was finished.

Lionpaw frowned when she spotted Maplepaw wander off while she was speaking only to return when she was finished with a flower in her mouth. "Maplepaw, you shouldn't wander off like that while I am talking to you," she scolded with a twitch of her whiskers in annoyance. "Its very rude mostly when I am just trying to help you." She sighed with a shake of her head. "If my teaching isn't catching your attention then you will just have to wait for your mentor can teach you this all properly."

Lionpaw held a stern expression on her face as she stared at Maplepaw, ready to tell her that she was done with the lessons but as the younger apprentice pleaded with her to go on, she felt her frown soften before she sighed. "Fine," she said although she felt guilty - it really should of been Maplepaw's true mentor giving her these lessons not a fellow apprentice. Lionpaw might have been in a fight before but it was one thing to tell Maplepaw how to perform the moves and another to know how to perform them in the heat of combat. That was why most battle training wasn't telling someone how to do the move, it was showing them how to perform it. Hopefully Maplepaw would get true training before she ever in a fight.

"I'll explain one more move but then that is it for now. But when it comes to getting real battle training from your mentor I expect you to listen to them - of course those lessons will show you how to properly do the moves instead of just telling you how to do them," she admitted. While that was always an option for her to attempt to show Maplepaw how to do the moves, that was out of her comfort zone when it came to training and besides, the camp was not a place to test out battle moves. But what move would Lionpaw tell her about...

"Hm...Tail yank," Lionpaw said after a few moments of thinking. She stood up, stretching out her limbs before she flickered her tail, attempting to draw Maplepaw's attention to it. "Its a simple move but can be very useful in combat. Every cat uses their tail for balance as you know - if you can weave around your opponent and grab their tail and yank hard enough, you can throw them off balance and give yourself time to get in an extra blow while they are attempting to regain their balance." She felt her simple explanation was a good one even if it was simple but...Well the move itself was simple. Lionpaw had to hope that Maplepaw wish for training would be fulfilled until her mentor was strong enough to train her.

Lionpaw was relieved when Maplepaw agreed that this was enough of that make-shift lesson for today. She shook her head, finding herself wondering how it felt to be a mentor when just this was enough to tire her out. She sighed, but flashed Maplepaw a small smile. "I'm sure your mentor will be back on his feet in no time to give you proper training."
