Innocent Explorers [closed]

Sitting on the Sunningrocks, Petalpaw let out a purr, enjoying the warm sun on her fur. Lately, the weather had been a bit chilly, but with the sun out, it was perfect. Yawning, the soft sound of something rustling in the reeds made her perk her ears and she was ready for a warrior to emerge and yell at her. Being an apprentice, she wasn't supposed to be out of camp by herself and although she wasn't one to break the rules, she couldn't help herself. The territory was so beautiful, how could she not explore and admire it? Besides, there was a lot on her mind and sitting around the overly crowded and noisy camp made it impossible to think. So here she was, sitting alone and praying to StarClan that she wouldn't get in trouble.

Shatteredpaw had noticed his close friend, Petalpaw, wander out of camp earlier without a warrior. So of course, being the curious young cat he was, he eagerly followed silently after her.

After a while of hiding in the nearby dying bushes, afraid of her thinking he was a creep for following her, he finally mustered up the courage to show himself. He pushed past a twig that was jutting out from a dead bush and spoke up, "enjoying the serenity of the river?" He asked lightly, joining her on the smooth rocks.

Surprised by the voice that sounded behind her, Petalpaw turned to see the friendly and familiar face of Shatteredpaw. "Yes, it's quite relaxing," she replied in her usual sweet tone. He was honestly the cat she wanted to see and was glad that he'd shown up. "Although this is nice, I'll always be a bit nervous when leaving camp alone," Petalpaw added, wishing things weren't this way. In her mind, apprentices should be able to leave camp without a warrior, for it was in their nature to be curious. But things weren't that way and she knew she wouldn't be able to change it, for the rules were laws and breaking laws came with consequences.

He slowly nodded, joining her on the rocks, and calmly sitting down. "I am too, but we haven't been caught so far, right?" He brought up the fact that the warriors had been oblivious to their leavings, and he quickly began to wonder how much longer they could keep this up.

Agreeing to his comment, Petalpaw purred as they sat together. Being with Shatteredpaw was admittedly enjoyable and even just his lighthearted, simpleton personality was enough to make her feel pleasant. "Shatteredpaw," she started softly, a smile upon her face as she looked to the tom. "I'm glad we're friends," Petalpaw finished, feeling a bit awkard on top of the butterflies in her stomach. Was he glad to be genuine friends or was this just a game to him?

Shatteredpaw turned his head slightly to look at her, "I am too, I'm not sure what I would do without you around." He stated, a small, light purr making itself audible. It was a genuine answer, Petalpaw was one of his only friends minus Fracturedhawk. Apart from friends, he was aware of Lilacpaw, Petalpaw's sister hating him.

If cats could blush, it'd be very obvious that she was in fact blushing from Shatteredpaw's comment. Purring, she shifted her weight ever so slightly so the two of their pelt's touched more. "Shatteredpaw, I need to tell you something," Petalpaw started, hoping she was making the right decision in telling him this. "I've been thinking about this for a while and well, I'm going to leave the clan," wincing at how crazy her notion sounded, she decided to continue before he was able to reply. "Clan life... it's just not for me. All the violence, all the fighting, it's not my thing. I love my family and always will, but it's not like they'll really miss me. I guess what I'm getting at is... will you come with me? I know it's a crazy idea, but you and I have been friends for as long as I can remember and it'd make all the more difference to have your company," the apprentice finished, wanting to shrink away into the shadows and never return. He probably thought she was crazy!

Shatteredpaw opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off as she continued talking, and he was glad she did. After she explained her reasoning, and the fact that she wanted him to leave with her, he really couldn't help but smile.

"Petalpaw, that's crazy." He started, his smile slightly growing. "Yet, I love it, I love how you think like that. Honestly, I feel the same way about clan life, it's just too hectic, there's just too many rules." He mewed, glancing at his paws before looking at her again. "So yes, I guess what I'm saying is that I'll join you." He finished, and inched slightly closer to her, and licked her cheek in a way to show he was sincere.

First thinking that he was going to say know, his smile soon said it all. Wanting to bounce up and down with excitement, Petalpaw brushed her muzzle against his cheek. "Thank you, oh thank you!" she purred uncontrollably. She always knew Shatteredpaw was a lighthearted cat, but she never thought that he'd actually say yes! "I love you Shatteredpaw," the cream apprentice mewed happily, comforted by his presence.

"Of course," he mewed softly, his smile remaining upon his muzzle. "I love you too, and I'm glad we're leaving together." He added, and without much more to say, he let silence follow.

With their pelts brushing and calming sensation washing over her, Petalpaw let out a content sigh, glad to be with Shatteredpaw. Soon, the two of them would be gone, just a memory to their friends and family. But they'd be fine without her and the more she thought about it, the more excited she got. Just her and Shatteredpaw, out on the open road. What a terrifying yet wonderful idea!
