The New Kit in the Den!

A puny and thinly shaped ashy blue kit snuggled against her respective nest. Her pale green colored eyes glued to the floor of the den for all other kits, and their mothers. She hadn't met many kits, nor is fond of many other clan cats. A lot of them seem big and scary to such a frail looking thing like Ashkit.

She had only been in this clan for a few days and felt .. off about it. It didn't help that it felt like a lot of the other bigger and scarier cats were looking at her in a mean way, the poor child was terrified of remotely anyone who shot her a cold glance at her or a fierce snarl. Being a lonely darling such as she made it all the more difficult for this kitten to adapt to newer surroundings and unfamiliar faces.

"My belly feels funny ... " She bitterly muttered, resisting the urge to make any noise reminiscent of a sort of whine or cry. The grey kit didn't even feel the need to voice her complaint to herself, even if no one was listening. The feeling of being out of place and foreign overwhelmed her, but she just .. held it in and minded her own business unless called for something; which is rare.

Explaining all of this to someone is far beyond the comprehension of a kit like she, but all she knew without any doubt was that she didn't feel like she belonged to River Clan, despite not recalling any other place to call home. This wrenching feeling made her curl up even more in her nest, a small silk furred ball if one looked at her from a distance.

Tawnystorm looked over at Ashkit. She wasn't sure why, exactly, she'd agreed to look after her, but here she was. At least she'd be able to teach the kit RiverClan's way of life, anyway. "Enjoying RiverClan, Ashkit?" she mewed. "You're fitting right in, and you'll be an apprentice in only six moons."

Ashkit's head slowly tilts upward from where she laid. Realizing who it was, she made the attempt to sit-up and properly face the adult she-cat.

"It's .. a little loud."She explained.

"But the food is nice." She commented, giving a weak smile at the thought of food being the most familiar thing to her right now. Listening to the second half of what Tawnystorm said, she thought of the word .. apprentice ... Her ears flattened a bit when thinking of the word.

"Will .. will I be a good apprentice? I mean .. I'm kinda' .. tiny." She muttered in her more-common-than-not pessimistic way of talking. Her eyes looking down at her small and frail legs. Being small as this clump of flesh and hair wasn't really anything to pride on about.

"You'll be a fine warrior, I'm sure. I'll be fighting right alongside you." Tawnystorm smiled at the thought of returning to her regular warrior activities. "Don't worry about your size. I know many small warriors that are just as capable of taller ones. And besides, being short does have its advantages."

She nodded firmly at her guardian's assurance and gave another weak smile as a silent thank you for believing in me, even if it wasn't crystal clear that's what the feeble smile meant.

"Really ... ? Like what?"She widened her pale colored eyes in curiosity of hearing such things, being small has its uses? To a tiny thing like Ashkit, that was almost unheard of to her ears. But she expressed partial awe hearing Tawnystorm beginning to go on about it.

Ashkit shook her head at the idea the stranger tom-cat said.

"I .. I don't want to cause any trouble for Tawnystorm." She whimpered. Lowering her head at the bitter sounding cat.

"Aw, Smokeface, you sound grumpy today." A rather large tom-kit meowed playfully from where he sat across the clearing near the leader's den. He was Fishstar's only living kit, Frogkit. A little self-important, he got up languidly and approached them without a hint of concern of any real respect for boundaries. He probably shouldn't have snooped, but there was so little to do in camp. "Don't be so meek, Ashkit. We're all gonna be the best warriors ever, I mean, how hard can it be?"

Tawnystorm glared at Smokeface. What was going on with him, lately? Ever since she'd taken in Ashkit, he'd been very grouchy. Was he...jealous? She knew he used to have a crush on her, but surely he wasn't still hung up over that?
"Whatever you say, Smokeface. It's not my fault that I want to strengthen the Clan." She rolled her eyes. She'd talk to him later. The warrior turned her attention back to Ashkit. "Don't mind him. Well, smaller warriors are usually swift and agile, and they're good at sneaking up on others. You can shrink into the bushes and nobody will notice you until you attack!" She smirked, but not in a mean way. "And, seriously, don't listen to Smokeface. If you try and be a thorn in my paw, I'll be a thorn in yours," she added warily.

"W-Well I mean.. I'm only by her because .. because she said she would take care of me until I'm stronger to take care of myself .."She murmured, her ears folding flat towards the ground.

Feeling all sorts of uncomfortable by this stranger, she was aware he was more than likely another cat in the clan; she just didn't know this tom. Nor why he was being .. a bit mean.

"Once I'm big enough .. I can maybe help someone else who may need it." She added. Trying to justify what she meant and keeping Tawnystorm's words well in mind. Never have she ever thought of causing trouble for anyone, especially the she-cat raising her. Nodding, agreeing to not be a thorn in anyone's paw.

Her worried gaze shifted over to the other kit, assuring her that becoming a warrior would be easy. She gave that familiar feeble grin and nodded once more.

"I .. I guess so. I just still don't know." She muttered under her breath. The words the nasty tom was saying began to chip at her a tiny bit, which doesn't do much good with how self-conscious she already was about herself and her own abilities. Smokeface, was that his name? She tried to ensure she heard the right name or not.

But her mind rang about the perks of being a smaller sized cat, she lifted her head a little and nudged closer to Tawnystorm as if wanting to say something specifically to her.

"At least when I'm a warrior, I won't be so bitter or mean like that snappy sounding tom-cat over there." She feebly smiled once more when whispering that to Tawnystorm, her ears flat as if she had spoken of something so scandelous.

Greykit watched from a corner of the nursery, bored out of her mind. She licked her pelt a few times, then kept watching. And then she still watched.
