Prankster Soul (Open)

Nightkit chuckled and waited. She was hiding right outside the nursery, or at least the best she could hide between the gorse without getting into a spiky situation. Well, at least her dark pelt allowed her to blend with the shadows of the plant. She was waiting for any cat to get close enough without noticing to jump on them with a yowl, startling them. That surely would bring laughs to future conversations…plus, she could use the practice, surprising older cats was proving to be a true challenge for the young kit after all.

Winterpaw was thinking about training, and wonderering when her assesment would happen. Winterpaw was walking around the camp,as it woud happen, she was just passing nursery,without suspecting anything.

Laying down on the other side a camp, Smokepelt noticed Cedarfur's kit looking like she was going to cause some trouble. Although the tom didn't want her scaring any cat, he was a bit curious as to how this would play out. The newly appointed deputy watched in silence, enjoying the patch of grass he sat on and the sun that warmed his fur. I wonder where Cedarfur is... This seemed like something that his uncle would do, and he remembered Icestorm telling him about how the tall tom would always scare and jump on him playfully. It must've been nice, having a brother to share his life with.

Nightkit smiled, this was just perfect! She didn’t rush though, she had learned from other times that rushing only blew away your cover, allowing the target to see you before time. Once Winterpaw was close enough she jumped with all the strength her tiny legs could give her, aiming for the back of the older cat “Surprise attack!” She yowled as loud as possible with all the intention of startling the bigger cat, her clear eyes shining with mischief and an anticipated feeling of victory. After all, the apprentice didn’t seem to notice her at all until now.

Winterpaw jumped into the air, hissing at the kit before she did realize it was a kit. By the time she landed, the kit was on her back. "Can you get off my back???" she said nicly. Then she thought about,and said,"That was a good pank tho."This kit could become a good wrrior one day Tho she didn't tell the kit that. The kit has scared her too.

Birdkit sat watching the whole thing near the nursery. When the kit jumped at the apprentice, she smiled. I wonder if the kit would like to play she thought. She then padded over.

Yep, she definitely shared Cedarfur's blood. Letting out a meow of laughter, the grey tom watched Winterpaw's reaction and although it was Nightkit's fault that she scared the apprentice, it was still a funny sight to see. "Nightkit, come here please," the deputy meowed softly, staying in his comfortable patch of sun.

Nightkit laughed a bit, holding tightly to Winterpaw’s back to not fall off as she jumped. As soon as she was asked to get off the apprentice’s back she jumped off with a smile, it was the first time that one of her pranks truly worked and she was really happy because of that. With the compliment she puffed out her chest a bit “Thank you!” Her attention then was taken away by the deputy’s voice, she hadn’t noticed him watching and she just hoped that he wasn’t angry.

She padded over to where Smokepelt was resting, but not without noticing the other kit that was looking at her from the nursery, smiling at her and flicking her tail as a greeting before looking back at the adult cat in front of her “Hey Smokepelt”.

Still keep a smile on, the grey tom's tail moved slowly back and forth in the air. "Having sun scaring cats I see?" He chuckled, trying to make sure Nightkit didn't think that he was angry or anything.

Nightkit just chuckled a bit and lowered her ears, she knew…or at least she thought that she wasn’t being scolded, but she probably would need to be cautious until she was completely sure of that “It was just a small prank, nobody got hurt and everybody laughed” She meowed, clearly proud of herself.

Honestly, he didn't like scolding kits, especially not his uncle's kits, and even though he could tell Winterpaw shook it off, she still seemed a bit scared. "You know, your prankster skills could be put to good use," he meowed, looking around camp. "See that beetle over there?" the tom pointed with his tail to a fat, blue beetle, lazily making it's way acoss camp. "I bet you catch that, don't you think so?" He asked softly with a smile, confident that Nightkit was already a good hunter.

Nightkit looked at the beetle. Well, this wasn’t one of the things she used to enjoy pranking, after all, bugs rarely reacted in funny ways, but she could give it a try, right? She crouched like she used to do when trying to pranks someone and carefully got closer to the beetle. Once she was close enough she couldn’t help but look at Smokepelt for a second or two before pouncing, clearly confused and unsure of why she was doing this in the first place. As soon as her attention returned to the beetle she pounced, taking it by surprise and trapping it under her paws, she, however, was as careful as always, not causing any harm to the beetle “Hum…Boo?” She tilted her head a bit and lifted her paws, the scared beetle soon flying away as the kit only watched, not really trying to catch it again.

Smokepelt understood that is was an odd task, but the tom was glad to see that at least the kit tried. Giving a soft chuckle as the bug flew away from Nightpaw, and he knew that he should've explained the task better. Flicking his tail, he silently calling her back over to him. "It was an odd task, but the idea was that you'd use your ability to sneak up on the bug and catch it, as you would do with prey," he pointed out. "But don't worry, it was your first try, you'll get better with more practice."

Nightkit got up and walked towards the clan’s deputy, still clearly confused and thinking on what just happened. It wasn’t until Smokepelt explained the reason behind his task that she finally understood the whole thing, this was like…training before her apprentice ceremony! Hunting training! She smiled, she never had considered that her skills to prank other cats could be used for hunting! “I get it now Smokepelt! I’ll get better, I promise!”.

"I know you will, I always have," he purred to his cousin. He had faith in the little she-cat and couldn't wait to see her grow up into a strong and brave warrior. She's just like her father, the tom thought to himself, still smiling. It seemed as if the clan's kits were extremely smart this season, and he was excited to see how fast they'd improve.
