Little Ant, Always Fearful

Standing up, he looked around. Since when were there so many rats? Knowing they had to get going, he gave the small cat a nudge on the flank with his nose. The filthy rats were closing in, knowing the smaller cat was an easier target. "Run!" Mudfoot meowed, practically pushing the little cat towards the fence.

The little calico darted, running in a zig-zag pattern before ducking under a broken part of the fence. Ant's pelt got caught on the cold metal, but she was out of the Carrionplace.

Before the rats could even react, the two cats were outside of the fence, a place that those foxhearts dare to never go. Breathing heavily, he looked to the kit, who seemed to be alright. Oh yeah! The food! "Stay here," he meowed, trotting away from the kit. Soon enough, he came back with a plump squirrel, setting it in front of the kit. It was supposed to be for the clan, but she needed his help and he couldn't just let her starve.

Her eyes were wide. The last time another cat had offered her food was when she had still been nursing, and even then her bigger siblings would always push her back. Ant sniffed at it before taking a bite.

At least she was eating, that would definitely give her some more strength, but what was he going to do with her now? Would Thrushstar allow a sick kit in camp? "Well, I might be able to take you back to camp..." he thought aloud, thinking about how horrible it would be if his clanmates rejected Ant.

Her little ears twitched as she continued nomming the prey. She had heard what the tom had said, but she hadn't quite understood it. "Camp?" she meweled curiously, her little tail curling around her frail figure.

Giving a nod, he tilted his head in the direction of ShadowClan camp. "It's a place where me and other cats that are practically my family live," he meowed with a smile, finally making up his mind. "Would you like to come with me?"

She was still scared, that much was obvious. Ant laid her ears back again at the mention of our cats. Still, this one seemed so nice. I guess his family wouldn't be bad... He's not, she reasoned, looking up at him cautiously. "U-Uh, okay..."

Mudfoot gave a soft smile, glad she agreed to come with him. "Can you walk? It's not that far," he meowed, taking a few steps forward before looking back at the sick cat.

Glad that Ant at least had a bit of humor still left, he padded towards ShadowClan camp at a moderately slow pace with the kit by his side. Partly happy that he was able to save her before something bad happened, but worried about how his clanmates would act, the tom gave a small nervous sigh, hoping that she didn't notice his nervousness.

She kept pace with the larger tom with a bit of effort, but was thankful that he went slowly. The little calico noticed that he was nervous. It would be hard not no. Still, she didn't think much of it. As far as she was concerned, a grown tom could fight off anything.
