Chestnutkit's death (not really i changed my mind)

Chestnutkit had found a way to escape camp and see the forest, he padded against the forest floor "Wow I don't see why they cant let us here..." he looked up at the trees already growing buds. He sneezed and stopped, he sat down and rolled on the forest floor. Dust was everywhere on his pelt, he got up and looked at the river behind some of the trees. He shook his head and unsheathed his tiny little paws, he looked at a tree "I bet I can climb it!" he murmured to himself. He jumped up onto a low branch and soon made his way to the tallest branch. He stopped and sat down, he sheathed his claws and looked at the sky as it began to rain I better get back he thought. More rain started to fall and made all the trees wet and slippery, he pawed the branch and almost slipped off. He kept pawing it, he knew he could stay on the branch and keep his grip.


Soon it looked at if a dozen drops were falling, his fur was soaked and had tangles in it. He leaped down and sat under the tree to cover himself, he heard lightning looked at the trees knowing nothing would happen but he was just a kit and never knew that. He got up and heard a huge strike of lightning go behind him, his eyes when wide and looked at the tree beginning to fall as if a twolegs monster had done something to it. He tried to escape but felt the grasp of the tree push onto his pelt, he squealed and wailed for help. His vice lowered and soon he was still under the fallen tree.

Wow, what a gloomy day. Troustep walked along the RiverClan border, his pelt soaked with rain. Thunder sounded in the distance as he trudged on. Most cats would be happy to finally have a family, but for some reason, the tom just felt nervous. Maybe he was scared that he wouldn't make a good father? Troutstep shook away his thoughts.

A little ways ahead of him, lightning struck a tree. It feel with a crash and made the tom jump back. Great StarClan, will it start a fire? Even though there was rain, it was a pretty big bolt of lightning. He was going to walk back the way he came until he heard a squeal. Stopping in his tracks, he listened for the sound, draining out the patter of rain. A kit? He ran to the tree, searching around, and finally finding the bundle of wet fur. "What were you doing out here?!" He meowed over the rain. No questions, I need to get him loose! Troustep desperately looked for a part of the tree that could be pried loose. He'd already seen a few kits die, he couldn't let this one go too!

Chestnutkit pawed the ground trying to get out, he saw a figure in front of him "T-T-Troutstep!" he squeal, he tried to breath to tell him what happened but hiss lungs felt as if they were breaking and his body was numb.

Troutstep put his front legs on the tree and gave a shove. His muscles rippled as he used all his strength. I can't, no, won't let this kit die. He let out a growl of frustration when the tree didn't budge but tried again. Troutstep could tell the kit couldn't breathe and his own breath quickened. Half panicking, he finally started feeling the tree moved. One more time. Pushing the tree trunk, he quickly grabbed the kit by his scruff and moved out of the way. Good thing he acted fast, for the tree came crashing back down, right where the kit had been stuck.

The rain fell continuously and both of them were soaked to the bone, but he knew the kit came first. Sitting up, he nudged the kit under his chest, and started licking his head. "You're lucky I came when I did." He mumbled, not expecting an answer. Right now, he needed to keep the kit warm, he'd ask questions later.

Chestnutkit quivered, his fur was wet and his body was freezing. He slowly became warmer and breathed slower, he laid down more on the ground to relax.

At least he was warm and breathing. Troustep had no idea what he would do with himself if this kit died. For a moment, he felt bad for the kit, all cold and scared. But that compassion soon turned into anger. 'What were you thinking, exploring away from camp, in the rain?" He meowed sternly.

Chestnutkit sat up, he looked down "I'm sorry, I lost camp and..." he trailed off "I just wanted to see the river...I remember being there when I was younger" he mewed at last

Giving a sigh of relief, he stopped licking the kits head. At least he is able to talk. Which most likely meant there were no broken ribs. "I hope you've learned your lesson." In a way, this was a valuable teaching moment for the young cat.

Chestnutkit nodded "Ya, I'm sorry" he looked back up and looked back at the rainy sky "Should we get back?" he asked

"Yes, let's get back to camp." He said with a soft smile. Giving his soaked fur a shake, he picked up the small kit by the scruff. "Let's go home." Troutstep mumbled. This was one of the rare moments when he actually felt happy about something. Saving this kit... who knew something so scary could turn into something happy.

Chestnutkit enjoyed being picked up again by a cat, he sneezed and soon saw the camp appear "Were here!" he mewed. He could wait to be back in the warm and cozy nursery now, he knew now why kits aren't allowed out of camp.
