The Dove in the Barn

Blood was spilling from a she-cat as her eyes turned from lively green to dull gray. A kit was heard nearby, mewling for food and shelter against the cold, Leaf-bare air. That kit, was named Dove.

Her eyes were closed, and it was tiny, very, tiny. Her ears were flattened and she curled around herself, attepmting to warm the tiny body.

-WindClan territory-

Withersnap chased a rabbit further than her Clan's boundaries. Knowing she was in Twolegplace, however, she didn't fret too much. The rouges were easy to take care of.

-At the barn-

The warrior tiredly headed into the barn for a rest and unintentionally laid down next to the kit. Noticing she'd touched something furry and warm, she sprung up and noticed the little bundle of fur. "Great StarClan, you're freezing!" She screamed. She sat over the little kitten and started licking her. "Blizzardwind, there's a nearly frozen kit here! Help me warm her up," She called for her mate with a distressed yowl, she same one she used when she gave birth.

Blizzardwind was hunting with his mate when he heard her yowl, running over as fast as his long legs could carry him, he reached the barn in a matter of seconds his long legs being an advantage. He burst into the barn only to see the tiny little ball of fluff no bigger than his four paws put together. "Oh my, the poor thing." The silver and light gray spotted Tom meowed and swiftly walked over to his mate and laid next to her the kitten in between them. The observant Tom looked around the barn and noticed some hay, getting up he grabbed a whole mouth full of the stuff and nudged even more of the stuff over to his mate and the kit setting down the hay he had in his mouth the Tom gently lifted the kit up and moved the hay into place and then set her back down again. "There that should help some."

The little she-kit's distressed mewls turned into content purrs. She snuggled closer to the two bigger cats, soothing warmth coming over her.

"Shes precious, isn't she Withersnap? Good thing you just gave birth eh? The poor kit looks starved and cold. What kind of sick cat would leave their kit like that, and a very tiny one like this. Ill go see if I can't find a scent of any other cats around." The Tom meowed getting up and ticking the sleeping kit into the hay and into his mates fur and then went to scout around the area. The Tom found some old bones from prey and a dead light gray kitten.. "Oh no. The poor thing." And by the looks of it the kitten had just died as it wasn't crawling with bugs. The Tom picked up the dead kitten and brought it back over to Withersnap. "I didn't find any scents but I did find this poor little one and by the looks of it he was that tiny things brother, and the parents thought that the tiny little she kit was dead as well so they left, their scent is very faint and aroundund this little dead one unfortunately." He meowed setting the limp bundle of fur down.

As if the she-kit knew it were her sibling, she meowed pittifully and sadly, squirming and crying loudly.

"We should take her back to camp with us, she could sleep with Tallkit and Ashkit. But first she needs a name. What should we name her?" Blizzardwind meowed. "I'll go let you think and while you do that ill make a grave for the poor kit." He picked up the light gray dead tom kit and took him outside and laid him down and started to dig a hole. After digging an appropriate sized hole he set the kit in it and went to pick some nice flowers. once he had more than enough Blizzardwind took them back over to the grave and then buried the kit until it was covered and then set the flowers over it and went back inside.

The she-kit's eyes opened briefly. They were a beautiful blue. She looked around curiously, and she noticed some dark red object at the corner of her eyes. She let out a frightened cry at the object and closed her eyes again, mewling pitifully.

"Shh. Its alright. Your safe now, don't cry." Blizzardwind meowed to the frightened kit gently licking her cleaning the blood off of her. The silver tom with the light gray sots and pale icy blue eyes blinked warmly at the kit.

Withersnap shut her mouth while her mate spoke, and she nuzzled the kit. "I like the name Dovekit." The queen realized something quickly - "Blizzardwind! We need to go! Tallkit and Ashkit must be starving! We've been out since Sunhigh!" She blurted out everything that came to her mind, and she slowly got to her feet and lifted Dovekit off of the filthy ground. She slowly trotted out of the barn, wishing to get home and also yearning to be able to take care of three kittens.

Blizzardwind purred. He nodded and followed quickly looking back at the grave for a second and then running back over to his mate again.
