Ice Fishing and Family Matters (Closed)

Fallenblaze sat at the River, his mind overwhelmed with emotion. After his recent personality change, he had been looked upon differently by his clan- especially Troutstep and Halfpaw. The tom smashed his paws into the ice, and dunked his head in, clamping his jaws on a fish. He wasn't in the mood for the more efficient way of ice-fishing, which most cats preferred. He tossed the fish on the snowy ground next to him, eyes dim.

A second later, he heard the crunch of snow. He turned to see the dim figure of a cat. "Troutstep?" He asked, recognizing the scent. His ears quickly flattened in remembrance of how Troutstep felt about him.

Troutstep followed the scent of a snow hare, unfortunetly losing it after a few yards. He figured it might be nice to go ice fishing, take a break from hectic clan life. But to his dismay who better to be there than Fallenblaze. "Yea, who else knows how to ice fish as good as me." The tom said walking up the frozen water.

Fallenblaze cast his glance away, feeling upset. Just my luck. I bet he wants to yowl at me, or shun me or something. I guess... I guess I deserve it.

Troutstep sat his rump down by the water's edge on the frosty ground, giving a slight shiver. Wait, why am I staying here? What...do I say? The tom thought, wondering what to say. "Alot has been going on in the clan." He said, staring to scratch the ice with his claws, making it easier to break.

Fallenblaze blinked. Time for a conversation, then. His ears fluffed back up, no longer flattened. "Yeah. Especially with... R-Ru- All the new kits." He said, worried that the Rushreed mishap was the thing that was making Troutstep angry. Is he mad, too, or is he againt me?

Troutstep gave a nod, lifted a paw and smacked it hard against the ice angrily. "I'm just sick of all this never ending family crap." He finally confessed. Troutstep pushed a few dead plant seeds into the ice hole, and waited for the hungry fish to give in. Soon enough, he swiped a fish onto the shore.

Fallenblaze perked his ears at his comment. "Me too." He said quietly, shifting his paws. With another dunk of his head into the water, a fish was brought to the shore. He was surprised at Troutstep's confession. "In all honesty, I'm... Just confused." He confessed himself, turning away slightly.

Troutstep sat there for a few moments, watching the faint movement of fish under the ice. "I've been confused since the day I walked out of the nursery." He sighed. "And I guess I just lost track of how long it's gone on or how it started. I guess it started with Salmonstripe and then it's been a continuous downfall from there."

As he listened to Troutsteps words, more confusion splashed over him. "You know, I never really understood the hatred for her. I just went along with it cause you guys did- you and my father." He explained, looking at the water. A minute later, he added, "How are your kits doing?"

"I guess our hatred was always from jealousy." The tom half chuckled, wondering why they were so jealous. He perked his ears when Fallenblaze asked him about his kits. "Patchpaw is doing well and getting along with the other apprentices. But, I'm a bit worried about Pearlkit." His tail fur was blown around in the breeze. "I don't know why she hasn't been made an apprentice yet. I hope she doesn't fall behind her brother too much."

"Oh." He mewed, looking at the grass. "I'm sorry." He finally said, shifting his gaze away from Troutstep.

"Sorry for what?" Troutstep said softly, looking at his nephew.

"Sorry for how I've been acting recently. I've been a huge mess, especially with Rushreeed. I feel really bad, like... Like I don't deserve such a good life, you know...?" He asked, searching for an answer to his confusion. He sighed.

Troutstep gave a slight chuckled. "Trust me, I know." He replied. "I know it's hard with Rushreed. And I don't really know whats going on myself." He looked back to the ice. "But just know that she never meant to hurt you."

Fallenblaze smiled a little. He was about to ask, you do? but stopped as he spoke again. "I... I just thought she was a traitor, like, she could've... Known, or something. I know it's crazy, but... You never know. So... So much has happened..."
