Battle Training [for Kes]

Falconstar padded over to his apprentice, giving Kestrelpaw a gentle nudge. "I think it's time to teach you some battling techniques." He cast his eyes across the wide expanse of trees. "Hopefully you won't need it anytime soon, but it's best I teach it to you now."

Kestrelpaw leaped up as soon as he heard Falconstar's voice. "Yes!" he exclaimed happily, licking down his sleep-messed fur to try and look presentable. "I'm very excited!" he said once he finished.

Falconstar smiled and nodded, standing passively before the apprentice. "Alright, first, I want you to try a front paw blow. Hit me on the head with your paw, but remember to keep your claws sheathed."

Kestrelpaw reared, baring his fangs. Clumsily, he stumbled forward, twapping his paw onto Falconstar's head. He stumbled after he landed, his pelt growing hot. "I think I did that really wrong." he said, his embarrassment plain.

Falconstar laughed good-naturally, getting back into a more defensive position. "Don't get discouraged, Kestrelpaw. Try again, and be more aggressive."

Crouching, Kestrelpaw focused intently on his leader and his mentor. His eyes narrowed, and time slowed. His breathing deepened as he took in the stance of Falconstar. Kestrelpaw wanted to be just like him; an old and respected leader. With a swoosh, he raised, taking and slamming Falconstar's head with his front paw as hard as he could.

Falconstar grimaced slightly, but stood straight again with a grin. "Good! Just like that! Now, try the belly rake. Get down to the ground and attack my belly with your paws. It's very good for keeping your enemies at bay. Just remember, no claws."

Kestrelpaw dove quickly, diving through the front of Falconstar and swiping at his belly, claws sheathed

Falconstar let Kestrelpaw get his hit in, then jumped back. "You're quick. That's good. You'll need to use your speed to your advantage if you want to take down cats bigger than you."
