Shimmerpaw's Warrior Ceremony

"Let all cats old enough to capture their own prey gather underneath Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!" Thrushstar yowled.

Shimmerpaw walked out of the apprentice's den. Was it finally her turn? After she'd waited so long? She looked around for Leopardfang; he should be here to witness this.

"Tonight we gather to make this apprentice a warrior," Thrushstar said looking down at Shimmerpaw. It was finally her time. "Shimmerpaw, please step forward."

Leopardfang watched from the nonexistent crowd, pleased. A purr was rising in his chest. Shimmerpaw certainly deserved this. She was very well trained, if he did say so himself.

Shimmerpaw stepped forwards, her shaking finally abated. After moons and moons of waiting, then having her hopes shattered, then waiting again, now was the moment. As she listened to Thrushstar speaking the age-old words of tradition, she again silently laughed at the irony that she had never thought this would be her.

Looking down at the apprentice, Thrushstar continued. "Shimmerpaw, do you promise to serve and protect this clan, as well as uphold the warrior code, even at the cost of your life?" He asked.

Shimmerpaw nodded. The next words she uttered were heavy with the weight of their meaning. She had given up the dream of being a medicine cat to be a warrior. Gingerheart said she would serve the Clan; and so she would. And medicine cats couldn't have mates... "I do, Thrushstar," she meowed solemnly. With those words, her soul fluttered like a bird had been set free. Was this the sense of purpose Gingerheart promised?

The leader nodded at her in acknowledgement before looking back to the clan. "Then by the powers of Starclan, I grant you your warrior name. From this day forward, you will be known as Shimmerheart. We welcome you as a full warrior of Shadowclan," He said before leaping down for the clan to finish the ceremony.

Shimmerpawheart sat up straighter as Thrushstar finished the ceremony. She was a warrior. It was worth it. She could be with Leopardfang. She sent her mentor, best friend, and- dare she say it?- possible mate a beautiful, hopeful, triumphant grin... possibly the only time she'd ever truly, without sarcasm, sadness or despair, smiled.

Leopardfang gladly returned it, though with a little more restraint and poise. Secretly, he liked her smile much more when it was genuine. He joined the Clan in cheering her new name before striding to her to purr and give congratulations. "You deserve this, Shimmerheart. Your new name sounds lovely. I hope you're prepared for the day-vigil."

Shimmerheart let loose a purr at the sound of her mentor's voice. "It wouldn't have happened without you, Leopardfang."
